If your age gap was in the range of 15+ years, you might be put under closer scrutiny (Possible sign of fraud). But an age gap is no reason to deny an application. You have nothing to worry about.

My fiance and I have a age difference of 25 years and were put under no scrutiny whatsoever.

Maybe you should comment on something you actually KNOW something about.

Actually there are stories that a large age gap does result in closer scrutiny, and the consulate level, because they are looking for sings of fraud. That you had no problems w/ this issue, is your personal situation and no reason to belittle another person's comment by suggesting they don't know what they're talking about.

You don't know what you're talking about.

And you do because you were not scrutinized for your 25 year age difference?:blink: If this visa process as described by all here on VJ hasn't demonstrated how "different" each case can be, then I'm not sure what does. The OP posted a question, seeking answers from readers. Some will have had "scrutiny" because of the age difference, some NOT. This is not a right or wrong type of answer and  about other's answers will not make yours more CORRECT.

-P

You still don't know what you're talking about.

There is a 15 year difference between me and my fiance. Me the u.s. citizen being a woman and older than my fiance. Our petition was sent back to the service center in december. At the interview the consulate did make a comment about our age difference. It's very true i think, that if you are a woman and older than your c.o. they seem to think it is fraud.

We also have a large age difference. I can't imagine anything more than a few extra questions (if anything at all). But then again, who said anything about this process being logical? I'm simply not worried about this issue. Good luck!

This is a such great thread, with interesting questions being raised.

If a relationship is genuine -- that will come through. Sure we'll be nervous during the embassy interview, yet we'll have documentation ready to support what we're saying.

My friends and family can see it in me when I talk with them. I've described the many potholes and delays in getting a visa. They're astounded. I imagine that the hard work will begin when he gets here. The first year of any marriage requires major adjustments. So I want to enjoy and celebrate all the good things that come our way!!

Our relationship is genuine (with all the ups and downs and "What??" included). We have nothing to hide, so I'm not worried about questions that might be asked. We'll just answer them. I believe the legitimacy of our love and marriage will be self-evident at the interview in Ankara. Though, I may be 80 years old by the time that day comes ...

Well some of us won't need as long a delay to make the late 70's as others will.

I would recommend for those of us with a bigger age difference to go the extra mile to inusre we prove a relationship. Sometimes the questions are easy and sometimes they can throw one at our fiancee that we would never expect. Let me give you an example. For many of us who correspond by e-mail and make trips to meet our S/O. Does your fiancee know your mailing address? Does she know your shoe size? your phone number? your mothers name? My first fiancee missed two questions. She had no reason to know the ones she missed. Missing two raised some doubts in the C/O's mind. Spend time making sure she knows everything they could ask and make sure you have lots of proof. My first fiancee went in with 10-12 photos of us taken during 3 different meetings. This time we are going in with 100 taken over 4 meetings. The first time it was photos of us together. These photos look like lovers. We are hanging all over each other. Of course my new fiancee is much more romantic and affectionate than the former one. We are always hanging all over each other and it is rare that you could slide a sheet of paper between us when we are together.

You can never be too prepaired. It is much better to do something extra to make sure it goes easily than to wish you had and to be trying to figure out how to salvage things.

I agree, and reiterate that a legitimate relationship has less to worry about than a contrived relationship. Secondly, a significant difference is that you filed through Vermont. Many of us have to go through California. :help::crying::blink:

I have no idea how fast or slow the embassy in Russia is, yet am keenly aware that Turkey moves at a pace comparable to California ... and thus my sarcasm about being 70 yo before the visa is issued.:wacko:

Yes, but the way things are going for me you may beat me to the brass ring. I have been stuck in A/R for two months with no end in sight. I heard of one case that was in A/R for 8 years.

The other thing to keep in mind is when we are in a real relationship we know it is real. The C/O doesn't. Sometimes our confidence in our relationship makes it so obvious in our mind that we forget we need to prove it to him.

I wonder how USCIS views a male USC who is 20+ years older than his fiance versus a female USC who is 20+ years older than her fiancee?
