I have zero intentions of becoming an American citizen  I'm not worried about it. Thank you though. I was just correcting the guy above since he said 3 years.

Some countries don't allow for dual citizenship. Morocco does, but even if it didn't, DH would never give up his Moroccan citizenship, even for the US passport (we love to travel and the US passport helps with that).

 

We've been having an awful time making an infopass appointment. Apparently they are busy and the website sucks and only updates available appointments after midnight. We tried to just go there and got turned away.

 

Sending the citizenship application out in the next few days...

Because I simply don't. Life in the US can be just as fufilling when you are a permanent resident. Maybe I'll change my mind in 2 years, maybe I won't. My call, you are right.

I personally think if you want to enjoy the US life here, then one should be a good person by eventually becoming part of the U.S and be a good citizen, otherwise, it is like just being an opportunist, bu that is just my philosophy politics. Nothing personal, good luck.

Exactly. It sounded a bit of like "I don't need your America, because it sucks nowadays, but I don't mind using benefits". )

Following but of additional information:

 

I went to the field office today to get the I-551 stamp.

After getting the stamp, I asked the lady (who was nice), if there was any chance she would know how things are advancing at CSC. She checked the computer and told me:

 

"They are currently preadjudicating (pretty sure that's the term she used)

June 28th. If you don't hear anything by August 15th, you can call and follow up, as it will have been over a year for you. (I guess that part is just a canned response concerning out of the regular processing times)"

Very true. Some do not want to contribute, they just want benefits. Maybe that is why they might just combine 400 and 751 for the people who obviously show the willingness to become part of the U.S. as citizens.

I fully intend to become a citizen, but exactly what benefits do you think someone is trying get by remaining a permanent resident? Has always seemed to me like permanent residents actually contribute a lot and do not receive benefits (for example, I pay taxes etc. but do not get to vote.)

And I think if they are preadjudicating 100 applications from June 15th and only one from the 28th. they will tell us about the 28th, of course. So basically, if as of May 31st they were processing 06/15/16 and as of July 31 they are processing 06/28/17 as you are saying, it menas that next update we are going to see is that as of June 30th they were processing 06/22/16. Not much. Gosh, a week per one month. It's so frustrating.

It's not only about benefits but it's about separate line on the border each time and getting asked questions as if you are low-sort, second-class resident of the US. Plus they keep the right to take GC from you at any time depending on the political situation in the world.

I understand that. Zombie was insinuating that people who chose to retain their green card rather than become citizens were somehow choosing to milk the system (i.e to gain benefits while not contributing to society), and that's what I would like clarified because I think it's incorrect and more than a little insulting.
