I just browsed the "I-751 May 2016 Filers" and "I-751 June 2016 Filers" threads.  :reading:

It looks like CSC skipped a May filer (5/20) who applied for N-400.  CSC also skipped another June filer (6/6) who applied for N-400.  VSC skipped a June filer (6/9) who applied for N-400.  -_-

It looks like there is a good chance that USCIS will combine your I-751 and N-400 applications.

Fingers crossed!    But...If I apply for N-400, CSC will probably skip me!

It seems like VSC hasn't changed the speed of how fast they've processed applications for the last 1-2 years.

Meanwhile CSC has slowed down significantly.  I'm not sure if one office waits for another (or any relationship whatsoever).  It seems like CSC alone has slowed down and VSC hasn't paid any attention to CSC!  :crying:

Hi Austin,

Couple of points you raised - I really wouldn't pay too much attention to what happened to one or two members of VJ that things happened to.

If you think about the grand scheme of life, how many I751 filers post here? My guess is less than a very small percentage of 1%. So I would take anything you read here with a giant pinch of whatever you put on your fries, and not take it as gospel as to what happens to everyone.

All we can all do, is read up as much info as possible, and gauge a sort of "trend", but I personally would never say "it looks like.... " from one or two users on this forum.  We're a unique bunch!!

If you apply for I751, and then you become eligible for N400, you are totally within your rights to apply for N400, which I'm sure you know.   The two applications are separate and have nothing whatsoever to do with each other.  However, when N400 becomes eligible for adjudication, if the file shows your I751 is still processing, the standard procedure, which is valid, and stated by USCIS, is to evaluate the I751 first, and confirming that, they will approve your I751, and move onto your N400.  If that happens in the same process, in the same meeting, by the same officer, that is what happens.

There is no "should be" and no "chancing" - its a standard USCIS procedure and I'll include the USCIS statement if you need me to.

Finally - my opinion on office speed - maybe they do monitor each other, maybe they don't.  But I have a feeling, (and I know from experience of family who have worked in this goverment arm) they really don't care, and do things at the speed the office suggests. Maybe someone on high says - oi - VSC, slow down you make CSC look bad. Or vice versa.  😝😝 I have no idea.  But I have a feeling knowing this government, they don't talk to each other at all.

Best wishes - the dude.

At the 551 stamp appointment today, they only extended by six months and took the green card. Is this normal? I thought it was a year and you kept the green card?

From what I've read, some people get a year, some get six months. Some keep the card, some have it taken.

That sounds very inconsistent. Guess we weren't part of the lucky ones.

The immigration officer said we should hear in the next six months - here's hoping!

Why do you need a GC? Just get your DL based on the new stamp

Separation anxiety? I guess it serves no actual purpose. Just can't wait until we get past this and have more permanent ID to show permanent residency.

You went to the Seattle office, eh?   That's strange since I went to the same office.

I got extended for one year and nobody took my Green Card away (I'll need a copy of it to apply for citizenship).

I filed my I-485 and I-130 in 2013. I can't believe I am still going through the process 4.5 years later. I could never expect this would take so long.

It really depends on the office.  Mine was 12 months from the office in DC last month.

Agree with 4444510 - the outdated piece of plastic is exactly that.  It's an expired goverment document - technically it belongs to them, not you, and it is their right to take it.

Why would you need it?  It does nothing.  Proves nothing.  Like an outdated passport, or outdated gym membership card.  Ain't gonna let you in nowhere, so forget it.

The I551 is what counts - you do know that a green card - the piece of plastic - is also a I551.  So the I551 stamp in your passport is exactly the same as what you had in your wallet - albeit not plastic, but an embossed stamp.  Anyone who tells you differently, needs to learn immigration rules and the associated documents.

You needed a copy of your green card for I751 - so everyone here should have a copy of their physical green card.

Unless they decided to dump all their I751 documentation, then more fool them. The official advice is to keep all copies of all documents filed.

I just don't understand how people in DMV are going to deal with it. If only you saw their faces when I brought my expired GC and THE LETTER. They almost freaked out. I am worried for their psyche when they face THE STAMP.

I hear you - I don't know what to say.

All I can say is - an I551 is a green card.  Google says it.  USCIS says it.  My passport says it - I just went and looked - my stamp says I551.

The plastic card says I551.  What's the difference?  One is made out of plastic.  One is an embossed stamp.

So what do you do if you are in a DMV and they refuse your legal embossed stamp I551?  It's the same as them refusing your legal plastic I551?

Has anyone had this happen to them and what did they do?  I don't know.  Never happen to me - my FL DMV kindly gave me an 8 year license, so hopefully i wont be waiting on condition removal that long.

But its a good point - and something that must worry users - so who has managed a DMV renewal with a stamp?  And who has been refused?  And if so, how did you resolve it?

Lucky you.  California limits your ID by the last date of your legal status.
