Well, Portland gets so much more snow than Seattle!    I go like "What snow?" when my friend in Portland posts a photo of snow on Facebook!    You should move to Seattle!

It would be fun to be able to hang out with you guys, but Seattle's a little too expensive for us! Even Portland's getting to be that way these days, with a housing shortage, but Seattle seems to be almost as expensive as Vancouver was!

We filed ours on August 4th, 2016. The late processing times update shows they are not processing cases from 5/13,2016. USCIS had been stuck for almost 4 months on May's applications and now finally movie forward by 2 weeks worth of load. Moving very slowly. I think we will be approved probably by July or even beyond August...Just have to wait.

This process is very slow.  Right now I have made up my mind to wait and directly apply for citizenship.

Well, Seattle is the 9th most expensive city in North America according to https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/index/north-america.    

Portland is the 15th most expensive city!    Vancouver, Canada is the 16th most expensive city in North America!

Question!    What if I don't receive a 10-year Green Card before my 1-year extension permit (letter) expires?  

 

Do they mail me another 1-year extension permit (letter)?

It's not just expensiveness... It's unaffordability. Vancouver BC is 3rd or 4th in the world on that scale... And we've found Portland MUCH cheaper to live in!

No, you have to get an info pass appt a month before your letter expires and get them to put a stamp in your passport.

You can apply for N-400 if you don't receive the 10 year green card prior to that??

My 1-year extension letter (I-797 Notice of Action) doesn't state any expiration dates.  

 

Well, my 2-year Green Card expired on Nov 22, 2016 so I assume that they have extended until Nov 22, 2017, correct?  

 

Or....is it an extension of 1 year from the Receipt Date (8/25/2016) on I-797 Notice of Action?

USCIS considers it to be an extension of your green card, (so Nov 22, 2017). There has been some talk of other government type people taking it to mean 1 year from the receipt date... so I'm hoping that I don't have to go across the border in that zone from Aug-Nov without my new green card. 

However, given that USCIS won't let us make an appointment to come in for the stamp until a month before 1 yr after our green cards expire, that must be what the letter means. 

It does seem like they could have been more clear in wording the letter. 

Oh well, what else is new with this procedure?

Great!     It sounds like I have until Nov 22, 2017!  

Yes, I won't go outside of the US after Aug 25, 2017 just in case!    

I don't want to take any chances!

No updated news for a while since March 14th. I think we are in for a very long wait. We might have to wait for another 3 or 4 months. Really depends on the updates now..

There have been about 5 approvals on the June thread, most of which happened in the last week or so... The USCIS processing times are usually only updated once a month, around the middle of the month, and they're "current" to the previous month, at the latest.

Ok, so they are working on June now, so I guess by June or July it will be out term, so I guess 10 to 11 month wait for August filers could be a real possibility. How did you get the info about 6 approvals from last June?

I've been looking around on the forum and reading the threads from other months... They've just updated their list and there's also one person whose name wasn't on their list who got approved on Monday.
