I got my i551 passport stamp 2 months after my 1 year extension expired.  It is probably the easiest immigration thing you will ever do.

I have harder times checking out at a grocery store with alcohol. Take your extension letter, expired 2 yr green card, passport, and ID.

We are going to our infopass tomorrow for my wife's stamp. Anything we should expect other than a stamp?

Nope - some places will extend for six months, some for 12 months. Some will take the GC away (make sure to get any copies you need of it now) and others won't. It seems the most common is 12 months and keeping it, however we only received a 6 month extension and they took away the physical card. Either way, it's progress.

do you know by any chance if I changed my passport since I have originally entered the US, do I need to bring my old passport with me to get the extension stamp? All my stamps from my previous entries in the US are in my old passport. I had to renew my passport, but after I have received my GC. Thank you.

You don't need your old passport.  You will need your current one which hopefully doesn't expire for at least a year.  If it expires sooner than a year your stamp will only be valid until you passport expires.

I have updated my passport twice since my original US entry.  My current one has no US visa stamps.  The officer will find an empty page, stamp it, write in the dates/i551 info , put a raised seal and hand it back to you.

Thank you so much for putting my mind at ease. I was stressing out about it. Happy to not have to look for the old one.

My wife and I went to the Memphis USCIS office this morning to get another stamp for her I-751 since her extension letter expires in 3 days. You guys were right. That was easier than checking out at a grocery store.

1) Go through security

2) Sign in at desk

3) Wait for your number

4) Sit at window with immigration person, tell them you need to renew your stamp because your I-751 isn't ready

5) Wait 5 minutes while they walk away

6) They give you passport back with stamp and you say bye bye.

In and out in about 25 minutes

They must be getting used to it by now... unfortunately, they're probably doing a ton of these - might as well be efficient about it!

It's probably just a site update which doesn't really show the progress of processing times. We probably have to wait until 2 weeks from now to get a real idea.

I hope so too, but I have a feeling by November 15 or 16th, CSC will be at July 30 or 31st, and it will slow down due to holidays, I guess it they will start adjudicating the majority of August filers sometimes in mid December and slow down again due to holidays, and finish all the August filers by close to Feb or even March unfortunately. I hope I am wrong, but I just have this vibe.

I just got back from my infopass appointment at USCIS office in Dallas. I got my passport stamped and it will be good for 12 months. He did not take my old green card, in fact he didn't ask for it at all. I'm happy I get to keep my old green card for my personal record. He just asked for my appointment letter, ID card, and NOA of my pending I-751. He then, asked me some personal questions to verify my identity. After that he told me that my temporary extension is already expired per 08/21/17, that is 12 months from my NOA date. He also told me that CSC is still processing July fillers, and August will be coming soon. He then asked for my passport to put I-551 stamp on it. After he gave my passport back. He apologized on behalf of CSC for the pending/delayed I-751 due to the workload. I did not ask any questions at all. I guess he got used to people coming for the same case.

It was really quick, less than 30mins including waiting in line.
