We haven't personally done this step just yet since our case still is at NVC so I am not sure if there is a small delay between filling out your readiness form and scheduling your interview, but others can confirm that info for you!

Nope, no payment is required for the DS 160. Just make sure you print a copy of your confirmation page and bring it to your interview.

The only things you pay for are your visa fee, which is paid at the time you schedule your interview, and your medical when you actually attend it. The medical is £290 and the Visa fee is $265 (if I remember correctly). You also will pay for any missing vaccinations you need at the medical, but they are a rip off so it's HIGHLY recommended to get any missing vaccinations for free on the NHS.

there isn't really a straight answer to this, LOL.

We had a delay between filling out the readiness form and scheduling our interview, because we submitted our readiness form before our case had reached the embassy. But you should fill that out anyways, and then check the interview link every day until you're able to schedule your interview.

For reference, we were able to schedule our interview on Oct 6, but according to CEAC our case wasn't "ready" at the embassy until Oct 12 and we didn't even get our embassy letter til Oct 15. If we'd waited, our interview would've been 3 weeks later than it is currently :) so if you're not worried, then you can just wait, but if you are incredibly impatient and have a specific date (like i did) that you want your fiance here by.... check that interview link every day!

i would like to be there ASAP. So how did you do your readiness form before schedulling your medical? or did you make your medical appointment too before then?

my fiance's mum got a lawyer for her part as she was unsure as to what to do for the affidavit of support and so we have been working with her but i wanted to take a hold of everything from this side. i was sure that i was not needing to send the doeccuments to the NVC that i would also be taking to my interview but she is wanting those and also sending the affidavit of support to the NVC, is this right?

anyway, i want to schedule everything asap since i want to be there by christmas and interviews are around decemeber now.. so any advise as to what is should do now would be great..

We made our medical appointment before filing the readiness form.

Honestly, a lawyer at this point is really a money pit, but i guess if that's what she wants to do for peace of mind, that's her call! You don't need the affidavit of support until your embassy interview, which is at least 2 months away.

Your steps are:

Get your police cert

Schedule your medical with Knightsbridge

Fill our the DS-160 (start now, and I hope you have a good memory, it's about a 3hr process)

File your Readiness form

pick your interview date

and can you check dates before booking or do you keep going back to this site every day to check after youve made your appointment?

https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv

That site has the booking dates. I don't understand the rest of your question, because once you've made your appointment, you're good. You can check that site to see if you can move your appointment date any earlier, but you have to check constantly for that. right now your priority is to book your interview date, period.
