Knightsbridge will take your word for it that you've had chickenpox. No medical notes needed or proof offered. If you've had it and if they want to look they'll see scarring. Not that I'm advocating to lie of course. It's important to tell the truth, but they will take your word for it.

Sorry to be confusing! The above folks are also right - if you just say you've had chicken pox, that is proof enough that you are immune. My partner just genuinely doesn't know if she has ever had it and wanted to be honest.

The CDC does list the following as required immunizations:

1. MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

2. Polio

3. Tetanus and diphtheria

4. Pertussis (3 and 4 are covered by 1 Tdap injection)

5.  Haemophilus influenzae type B - this is a vaccine for CHILDREN only so if you don't have this as an adult, you will not be vaccinated again

6. Hep A series (2 vaccinations)

7. Hep B series (3 vaccinations)

8. Rotavirus - also for CHILDREN only

9. Meningococcal - TBH not everyone has this and I have never seen it be a problem

10. Pneumococcal - pneumonia vaccine, not given unless you are over age 65 generally

11. Seasonal flu - Will be required prior to March 31 (end of flu season)

12. Varicella - chicken pox (obviously if you have had chicken pox you don't need a vaccination; anyway the UK does not offer the vaccine and neither do Knightsbridge)

Most of these are routine and you will already have them if you were regularly vaccinated. They will have everything you need there available if there is anything you are out of date on. Just bring your immunization records in and if anything is missing they will let you know, like my partner needed a Tdap because her last tetanus booster was 12 years ago.

@fishe23a no need to be sorry I find government papers confusing as it's filled with much info and jargon.

that list is awesome thank you and looking at my vac records I don't think I need very many in due my 3rd and last hep b booster soon, had a 2nd hep a and I have had those ones you get as a child, also just last week got flu jab to be safe and a dip boaster (tetanus, polio and 1 I can't remember) but it came in the same tube :)

if I read correctly then I'm only going to need my 3rd hep b and pertussis yaaay!!

Hoping to to be approved with the next week just realised we are on day 80!! Uscis received December 13th and noa1 notice was December 17th....following geos report but unsure what date to follow and go by?! also anyone think I'm being unrealistic for approval just following most you fellow brits you seems to have been approved between 83 and 90 days :D

thanks again!!

The only required vaccinations are in your age bracket, the rest are noted as 'not age appropriate' on the vaccination record. For me the only thing I needed was the flu jab, never had hep A etc.

Use the wonderful Nich-Nicks guide for all things London :)

Vaccinations needed are:

Here are the shots needed for 19 through 59 years of age:

  • Td or Tdap - Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis or get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted for AOSalso. The latest shot must be no longer than 10 years ago or you need a booster. If you have a record of receiving pertussis, then the Td is okay for the booster.
  • MMR - (if born in 1957 or later)-Mumps/measles/rubella. It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first dose, and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval". If you only had one dose as a child, get a second one before the medical.
  • Varicella - Not routinely given in the UK . A history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam.
  • Influenza – Required during flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed. The list on the London embassy website is out of date since 2009. Don’t follow it.

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

If you are over the age of 19 please don't subject yourselves to Hep A and B shots for immigration purposes. You don't need them. While getting such a vaccination can't hurt for your own well-being they are certainly expensive and require a great deal of time inbetween shots. I can vaguely recall my own GP giving me Hep B as a teenager, and I elected to take it, which she felt was a good idea for teens soon entering college. It required quite a few months inbetween each shot. You don't need them to immigrate to the US, as per what Trudi just posted, the ones listed right there are all you need. Focus on the ones you actually need. And while you only need one of the two-part MMR to have a pass for immigration purposes if you have insufficient time, that'd probably be the one from a health standpoint I'd recommend. MMR is coming back aggressively in the US. If you are under the age of 19, then certainly other shots will apply.

I would add - although i had my most recent Tetanus jab within the past ten years (and had this on my record), I didn't have evidence of my previous tetanus jabs as my doctors only have records for the past ten years (I think this might be when they computerised them) - so when I went for my medical yesterday I had to have another tetanus jab as I didn't have a record of THREE tetanus jabs.  MY DS 3025 was then signed off as waived/complete - so it was better for me to pay the extra £40 (ouch - as painful as the jab!) than to try to get the evidence from my own doctor and risk having to go through another medical in the US.

I had my MMR about ten days ago, my flu jab a week ago, that tetanus at the medical yesterday - and my left arm looks like a bruised pin cushion.

I would emphasise that if you have been treated for any condition to which you have ticked 'yes' on the initial questionnaire - make sure that the medical summary from your own doctor includes dates, diagnosis, medication and duration of illness/issue.  My letter was too vague and I have had to go back to my doctor to ask them for full details and ask them to fax or email it to the clinic this week before the clinic forwards my results to the embassy in time for my interview next week.  This is an added stress I wasn't expecting.

However, it was fabulous to have @fishe23a's fiancee there too - for added support and to help me calm down afterwards.  I am so glad we ended up with the same date! And lovely to hear your story afterwards in the pub across the road over a pint of American IPA :)

I'm so sorry about the tetanus jab...you're the third person recently I know who has had to have one and their arms also ached for days! Your story about your GP providing a too-vague medical summary sounds scary. I hope they are able to fax the appropriate information to Knightsbridge ASAP - that is an extra added layer of stress that none of us need. I'll be thinking of you and hoping it gets processed right away!

Also, I'm assuming you're the one who had the American IPA! I can't imagine her with a pint of beer if any wine was available. :P She was glad to have you there, too, and get to talk about you and your partner's story!

Someone had their medical today didn't they? @AmieDee ?

In other news - I finally managed to get the letter from my Doctor today - and when I got home my letter from the Embassy was here!  So, I have emailed them with a copy of the letter as I still can't schedule my appointment online - it still says case not ready.  Hopefully I should hear back from them early next week and get my appointment!

And two of us have medicals on Monday! ;) I am looking forward to meeting your fiancee @fishe23a ! :)

Hey that's great news! I'm so glad you got your date - the 17th. It's so nice when things start to come together!

The medical was so easy and the people there are really nice.

I just found out Virgin Trains have a sale on today and managed to book a return to London for £20! (I live close to Manchester). I'm just getting the documents together for the interview now.

Anyone else ready to punch people in the face when they REPEATEDLY ask when you're getting married?! I'm sure I've told my friends a hundred times that it all depends on the visa. *Deep breaths* haha.

The people at the medical were really nice - but unfortuately I had to go back to a clinic and my doctor's here in Northern Ireland to get 'further details' on two medical issues because the information they had provided was not detailed enough. Which has just cost me another £40 - on top of the £10 I had to pay for the original letter - but which will be at the Knightsbridge clinic in time for my results to be sent to the embassy tomorrow.  So - hopefully now everything is in place and those medical issues are not an issue!

I will be so relieved when next Friday is over - as long as they tell me I am approved and not that they require any FURTHER information - or that I am not approved! Then I can start planning!

We have set a date - and a few friends and family have booked flights - but it isn't until late August as I can't travel out until the end of June/beginning of July anyway.  I figured that as it was so far away I should be okay with the timeline - as long as it was an approval.  I can't even bear to think of the alternative.

It says on my list that I need previous passports.  I don't have my previous passports.  My current passport has all my US trips in it except one which I made in 1994.  No idea if i should call the embassy or just take my current passport and explain that my previous expired passport was destroyed/lost ten years ago?

Hey that's great news! I'm so glad you got your date - the 17th. It's so nice when things start to come together!

The medical was so easy and the people there are really nice.

I just found out Virgin Trains have a sale on today and managed to book a return to London for £20! (I live close to Manchester). I'm just getting the documents together for the interview now.

Anyone else ready to punch people in the face when they REPEATEDLY ask when you're getting married?! I'm sure I've told my friends a hundred times that it all depends on the visa. *Deep breaths* haha.

The thing that's driving me CRAZY right now is that every time I speak to my parents, they say "any news on your visa application yet?". And every single time, I tell them that I probably won't hear a single thing until mid-late April, but that I'm not exactly going to be quiet about it when I have news. It takes a lot of energy to keep calm when they ask me that every single week, as if it's not stressing me out enough!

01/18/17 - I-129F mailed to Lewisville, TX

Ahh that sucks. It's a nightmare trying to get medical records.

I would contact the embassy or your local passport office regarding the old passport. I think they just need evidence that it hasn't been stolen etc. Better to be prepared in case they ask you.

We know we will get married about a month after I arrive but it also depends if we can book the date that we want. I don't want to promise anyone anything or have them book flights until I have the date set in stone!!

I'm looking forward to next Friday being over too! Just so that I can hear about your experience and hopefully congratulate you!!

Oh good - I'm glad it's not just me. I've just started saying "June. We don't have a date yet."

I'd love to just elope and send them the photos haha. Having divorced parents traveling alone to America for the wedding is not ideal - worrying about them on top of wedding arrangements.... arrrgh!

I found this thread:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/395835-lost-old-passport-with-tourist-visa-day-before-interview/

So it seems that maybe it will be okay - all except one of my previous trips to the US are in my current passport - the one that is missing is 23 years ago and that passport is long gone.  I wasn't able to list all my US trips on my ds-160 as it wouldn't let me update that page after the first nine visits I input. I will be taking a list with me of all visits.  I can't get an affadavit that I lost it because I didn't lose it whilst it was valid.  I think I lost it when i left my previous partner (he burned a lot of my stuff).
