HELP!!! Received 2 receipt notices with different receipt numbers

Hello VJ fellows,

I mailed my i-751 package to CSC on 7/20/16. Today I received 2 evelopes from USCIS in my mailbox. Both of them are receipt notices, same wording, same everything except that they have different receipt numbers (the WAC-XX-XXX-XXXXX numbers) and one of them says receipt time 19:05 whereas fhe other one says 19:11.

Has anyone here had this issue? Should I be worried that somehow my case got duplicated and they will mess up the case? Does the receipt number play any role in the whole process?

Any inputs would be appreciated!

Happy Chic, thanks for your response. Yes I received 2 extension letters (i-797). I feel relieved now knowing you also got 2 receipt notices for your AOS. I hope I won't be receiving 2 biometrics letters and 2 IO's will be reviewing my case lol.

So if I travel overseas, do I need to present both letters? Will one of them void the other?

Thanks again!

Same thing here! I received 2 receipts with different number after I filed my ROC.... its doesn't really matter, When you get your BIO appointment letter there is gonna be on that also different number and with that number you be able to track your case! good luck!

If you want 2 IOs to review your case, you will have to pay another $590! Just kidding. You won't have two reviewers. But people have got two biometric notices. But no single person that I know of, has got two notices of everything.

In the next biometric notice you will receive, one out of two WAC numbers will be identical to the WAC number from one of the extension letters you got. I would then follow the extension letter that has this identical WAC number. But still, don't throw away the other extension letter. Keep all notices the government sends you till you're done with the process.

Thank you, Happy Chic!

  • 1 month later...

Just a follow up in case someone googles this topic and stumbles upon this thread (which was exactly what I did but I couldn't find any thread related to this question). So I was totally fine with getting 2 indentical NOA1's (only with different WACs and receipt times as stated above). But then it's been over 30 days since the NOA1 date and I still havent received the biometrics letter yet, so I called USCIS today to make sure I didn't miss the appointment (I missed the biometrics appointment during AOS because the letter was sent to my old address). Anyway, the automated system asked for the receipt numbers, to which I entered both of them and it wasn't able to recognized either of them. I was still very relaxed at this point because I had figured it would be the case anyway (I heard only the WAC number on the biometric letter worked). Finally I was able to get to the customer representative, who totally freaked out when I told him I had 2 receipts numbers from 2 indentical NOA1 letters. He told me that he would need to transfer me to a tier 2 officer to "resolve" this issue, and that I shouldn't had been received 2 receipt numbers blah blah. I freaked out!!! So a call to inquire about the biometric appointment now turned into a call to resolve 2 WAC numbers.

I was then put into a "call back" queue. 70 minutes later a tier 2 officer called me at my cell. To my relief he told me it was totally fine to have 2 receipt numbers even though I made it clear to him that neither of them was a biometric receipt number. He stated that one letter was to notify me that they had received my application, and one letter served as an extension letter. It doesn't make sense to me though, because why would they need to send 2 identical letters to do 2 different jobs? And it looks like everybody here only received one. But I went with it anyway, because he insisted so.

He told me a biometrics appointment hadn't been scheduled for me yet, so I'd need to wait and no need to submit a request whatsoever.

Finally I asked which WAC number I should use if I need to call them again before I receive the biometric letters, to which he answered "you can give us either number and we can locate your case".

So above is my report of my experience on this issue. Don't freak out if you run into the same problem!!!
