Administrative Processing: did I anger the officer?

Hi everyone!

I'm an Italian citizen trying to get my k1 visa approved. I had my interview last May and I had to send in additional documents which required me to go back to Italy (I'm currently in Canada with a work permit) and that delayed the whole process. Long story short, I sent my documents in early July and I think they received them on Jul 12th (cause on that day the Administrative Processing status was updated).

Now me and my fiance read around that asking for your congressman's help can make things go a little bit faster and since there's no way to get a reply via email from Montreal, we contacted her representatives (all three of them). They all were very helpful and kind and proceeded to contact the Consulate on our behalf.

Now we got back from two of them and they're saying that one of them received a 8 weeks timeframe for the documents review, while the other got a 10 weeks timeframe. This sounds crazy to me cause the approximate time shouldn't change from one day to the other.

I am very scared right now cause in a couple of months my Canadian visa will expire and I can't go back to Italy cause the Consulate is holding onto my passport.

Did we anger the Consulate by having two of her congressmen' offices contact them at the same time?

You can at anytime ask for you passport back so no reason to worry about that part. That being said you took awhile to answer their request for ekstra papers but because they haven't responded within 14 days you contact 2 congressmen? Sometimes I just don't get how people are thinking.

I'm sure embassies slow down in July because of vacation and that embassy do have A LOT of applications, just look how many from Canada there are in here and they have moved it all to just one consulate.

And no the CO haven't put you in AP because of the congressmen but because they needed the papers and then have to look at them, keep an eye on updates. Overtime someone looks at your case the date will update.

I do hope for you it will get to issued very soon.

Yeah on hindsight we should have just contacted one congressman. We didn't know if they were gonna respond us so we kinda fired an email to all of them...

We contacted them cause we emailed the consulate to get a response on the passport thing but in a month we got no response.

I know it's gonna take a while to have our visa back, but the lack of communication was frustrating.

I don't think the difference in time given is because you annoyed a officer. I think it is one of two things:

1. The reps were both given the same timeframe of 8-10 weeks, and one passed the minimum on to you, the other the maximum

2. It is always a guess how long these things take, based on how many cases they currently have, how complicated yours is, and how many workers the embassy has. Maybe the enquiries from the two elected reps got to two different workers, and one is simply more conservative with their estimate than the other.

Two weeks of AP is absolutely not a long time in any event. Two weeks might be seen as the absolute minimum for them to review additional documentation.

I understand you're stressed out and want it NOW (we've all been there) but the time to bring in your congressperson is after two MONTHS, maybe. Try not to worry about it. :)
