Do we require I-864 for Employment based GC

Hi,

My employer (based out of US) has filed GC for us.

Our question is do we need to fill and submit I-864 since this is an employer based GC?

I have read a lot of conflicting replies from many so wanted to know before we proceed.

Thanks but I have received notice from NVC asking to send I-864. They mailed asking for my birth certificate which was missing (fine) but also mentioned the following.

Send photocopies of your civil document (eg birth certificate). Send and original, signed form I-864 affidavit of support.

Why would they ask this if its an employer based sponsorship.

Called NVC and cleared with them. It was not required.
