Hi friendsi am trying to fill the form i1864. I have a friend who is co sponsoring me but she had filed the taxes jointly with her husband. So , what should i put in total income for the 3 year tax return. Do i have to put the total amount from 1040 . Or seperate the amount from her husband and just write the amount from w2. I searched about it but got the mixed answer. Please help me friends. I am very confused.

Hi Newacct thank you so much for your reply. But i just have one more question, only my friend is going to fill up the i 1864 form. Her husband is not going to fill up any form. Still we have to put the total income from their tax return form or just my friend 's w2. Please give me some light on this.

While the numbers from 1040 would go in the boxes for last three years, her individual current annual income for 2016 should be put in the Current Annual Income Box. You should also ask her to provide you her current evidences of income like her employment verification letter from her employer, her pay stubs for last few months.

Hi Arken thank you so much for the answer. I got her employment letter through email . I hope it works becoz its just the email. There is no original signature and i dont have her paystub. She cant give me

As long as the letter is printed on the employer's letterhead, scanned copy is good enough since NVC requires a copy anyway. I hope the letter mentions her annual salary or hourly rate or information like that? I think you need to get her paystub because that is the best evidence of her individual current income. The income for last three years would be the joint income from joint filing, so it is better to provide best evidences of her individual current income.

Hi arken thank you so much for your prompt reply. Yes her hourly payrate and hours are mentioned there but not the total annual income. I have to calculate myself now. I have her w2 for the previous year. Shedoenst want to give me the paystub copy i don't know why. I am very nervous.

W2 only for 2015 doesn't work. Either she needs to give you the 2015 tax return transcript from IRS (which can be downloaded or ordered online for free) or she needs to give you her W2, copy of tax return filed (1040 or whichever was filed) and any associated schedules. If you simply include W2 only, you will get the checklist to provide what i've mentioned.

Because her tax return for last years was joint filing, her individual income for this year 2016 has to be provided with good evidences. As long as hourly pay rates and hours are mentioned, the employment letter is good but recent paychecks or paystubs will prove that she is earning what's mentioned in the employment letter.

Thank you so much arken. I know i need her paystub but she already said me she can't give, so i just have to take a chance without her paycheck. But i will try to get her tax transcript for 2 years since she didnt work in 2013. And her 1040 form. Is this form just 2 pages or does it have more page ? Can you please tell me.

If you get her tax transcript, you don't need her 1040 copies but doesn't hurt to include her 2015's 1040 and W2 as well which would show her individual annual income for 2015. Yes 1040 is 2 pages. If you plan to get her 1040, ask if if she has filled any schedules too coz those are also needed if they were filled in. Good luck.
