I am a May 2016 filer and received K1 approval this past week.

We realized that out of 2 consulates in the beneficiary's country we selected the farthest one.

1. Can I call the NVC now - before the NOA2 even reaches its door - and request to allot the correct consulate?

2. Is it risky to even go there - I mean -- just wait and take whatever comes your way - if you try to micro-manage or want to get too comfy -- you are staring at delays...? Not sure.

Elders, gurus out there please advise.

I listed the complete wrong consulate on my forms, NVC corrected it.

I would wait until you get the documents from NVC to see which consulate they have listed for you.

Good luck

***Moved from K1 Progress Reports to US Embassy & Consulate Discussion; topic is about this phase of the process.***

**Moderator hat off**

What country is the beneficiary interviewing in? Even though some countries have multiple Consulates in addition to the one Embassy, immigrant visa interview can and do occur at only one location.

From one of your other posts, I am going to assume the country you are talking about is India. After doing a little bit of research, New Delhi and Mumbai do the immigrant visas. Now with K1 visas, they go through NVC really quickly, normally a week tops. When they issue you a case number, you could request to have it shipped to the closer embassy or consulate then what you listed and they should be able to help you. If it gets sent to the farther embassy, you can either bite the bullet and take the interview there, or have them send it to the closer one. I heard that doing that can take up to a month. They apparently send it back to the states before sending it to the new embassy.
