Police have shot dead two men who took a priest and several others hostage at knifepoint at a church in north-western France.

The men shouted "Daesh" and cut the priest's throat before being "neutralised," police said.

Attackers 'yelled Allahu Akhbar'

A local resident contacted by telephone who saw the two attackers leave the church said they shouted “Allahu Akhbar” before being shot by police. The resident, who gave her name as Sylvie, declined to be identified by her surname.

The attackers' motives are unknown

It has since emerged the church was on a 'kill list' of a suspected ISIS terrorist arrested in Paris last April for allegedly plotting "imminent attacks" in France.

The deadly Easter Sunday attack by a suicide bomber in Pakistan has sent fears soaring of an expanding war on Christianity globally, even as the radical Islamic group behind the strike warned that more assaults on believers were in the works.

“We carried out the Lahore attack as Christians are our target,” Ehsanullah Ehsan, spokesman for Taliban faction Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, told Agence Press-France by telephone on Monday, adding that additional attacks on schools and colleges are planned.

Andrew T. Walther, vice president of communications for the Knights of Columbus, which has warned of a “genocide” targeting Christian communities in the Islamic world, said the slaughter of adults and children during the Easter celebration “highlights that Christians, especially in countries where they are a small minority, are often targeted.”

“And, as a whole, Christians are the most persecuted religious group in today’s world,” said Mr. Walther, citing a recent Pew Research Center study examining violence targeting religious groups.

Who are these experts and what is the data that they base their claim on? And how does that negate the fact that the vast majority of fatalities of terrorism (more than 8 out of 10) are Muslims? I haven't seen anything substantive to the contrary in your think tank piece. A think tank designated as a hate group by the SPLC, by the way, so excuse me for taking information from such group with the required grain of salt.
