Hey everyone, I could do with some advice. I just received a RFE today asking me to submit a complete Form I-693, completed by a USCIS Civil Surgeon. I came on the K1 visa and had a medical in London, and included the DS3025 vaccinations record I was given in the AOS application. Does this mean I need to get a new medical done in the US, or get the record transcribed? Just a bit confused having already had the Knightsbridge medical.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

You don't need new medical exam, if you had some vaccination shots missing, then you need to get those shots by one of the Civil surgeons and they will complete the form for you that you will need to submit showing that you completed all required shots. I suggest you take your vaccination record with you to Civil surgeon and see if any are missing. They will complete to form and have it signed for you.

This is my understanding...If anyone else can add to this or can correct me..

3 things.

1) Can you provide the exact wording of the RFE?

2) Do you have another copy of your DS3025 or do you remember what it looked like and does it have a tickbox selected stating ''complete"?

3) Responding to the RFE is going to require you either going to a CS and getting the full medical, or going to a CS who is willing to sign off on the vax sheet portion only. But this will depend on the exact wording, as those who have had this issue (myself included) have encountered various wording as to what they really want from you.

No. You must complete exactly what the RFE requests. So the wording of the OP's RFE is very important. A K1 is not required to have a new medical exam, correct. However numerous instances of persons being asked for a new medical regardless are happening, and quite a few are those who went through London. It can happen that the USCIS has lost the medical, finds what papers they have been given deficient, or simply the officer reviewing the case is ignorant of the rules. You will never get them to admit which is the case.

Thanks for the responses all.

The letter goes as below:

Dear xxx

Why We are Writing You

On March xx, 2016, you submitted your I-485. We are writing to inform you that we need more information from you to make a decision on your case. Please read this letter carefully and follow all of the instructions below.

What You Need To Do

You must provide the following infromation in order for us to make a final decision on your case.

Submit a complete Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, completed by a USCIS Civil Surgeon. We will NOT accept photocopied medical exam results. You must submit the original form and any supplement completed by the Civil Surgeon to us. You and the Civil Surgeon must sign the form, and it must be sent to us and in a sealed envelope from the Civil Surgeon. If the Civil Surgeon refers you to a specialist, the exam by the specialist must be included, and the specialist must complete the proper sections of the Form I-693.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then it just goes on about when I need to do it by.

I have a copy of my DS3025, and it doesn't have either the complete or not complete tick boxes at the bottom filled in. I presume this is due to not having a flu vaccination, as I did not need one when I had my exam.

Thanks. I assume you had the flu waiver checked on the ds3025. They do seem to want the complete medical report. We can only guess whether they lost yours or think there's some sort of problem with your vaccination supplement and have decided to ask for an entirely new medical completed.

I received an rfe for the vaccination supplement only but mine specifically mentioned varicella. I was already talking to my congressmans liaison so I emailed her saying I was confused because the London medical counts and the ds3025 clearly shows varicella history. Uscis rescinded the rfe and approved the green card the next day. I got really lucky.

Yuna had to redo the vaccination supplement. Another Londoner around the same time as us had to redo the entire medical. In the end, the common denominator seems to be that London wasn't completing the forms the way that uscis wanted or understood. Or uscis didn't know how to read the ds3025.

Think about whether you want to have your congressman inquire as to what exactly they want. At the same time you can explain that the medical and vaccinations were completed. Otherwise find the cheapest civil surgeon to redo it so you can move on with your life.

It would seem then they are indeed asking you for the full medical. You can take that to mean pretty much what I said before - lost, or asking you for the wrong form due to ignorance (you could try and fight them on that but not sure how successful that would be). You can search through this thread to try and find a CS in your area that will be able to complete the medical at a more affordable rate. What I would do though (and we did do this), is not only make a copy and highlight the K1 rules regarding the I-693 for their future education, but to include a strongly worded letter.

I have a copy of my DS3025, and it doesn't have either the complete or not complete tick boxes at the bottom filled in. I presume this is due to not having a flu vaccination, as I did not need one when I had my exam.

No, it's just not ticked because Knightsbridge is a butt. ;-) To be honest, one common theme of us all is that the box was never ticked. A few have investigated through their congresspersons and discovered the tickbox is the reason why the RFEs are given, but with no explanation as to why if it is just an issue with the vax supplement/DS3025 box not being ticked, they are getting an RFE for the whole medical. IMO, it's because the officer is ignorant of the rules and doesn't know or care.

In our case it seemed, that the officer was at least aware of the K1 rules regarding not needing a full medical, but was unwilling to sign off on the vax sheet or that they lost the vax sheet somehow. The wording on our RFE requested just the vax sheet only. Our CS believes it was one of these two things but that you'd never get a straight answer from the USCIS.

Thanks for your responses, this is massively frustrating if I have to have another medical even though I'm a K1 applicant. Is it possible to get the I693 completed by a CS without having to have the full medical, if I take my proof of the K1 medical and DS3025, or is there no way round this?

Maybe the medical exam was already expired. I had to redo mine and according to the new rules the medical exam from K-1 visa should be good within a year after filed AoS. So, it doesn't specific only from London.

The CS will determined whether you will need a full medical exam or not.
