future use of white books (split topic)

I remember myself having a set of these books too. I was too young back than during my immigration to remember and it's been 20 some years already so I don't know if my parents remember.

These white booklets I assume are the certificate of no criminal record, no prior marriage, and birth certificate. During the interview, do the interviewers just look at them and make copies or do they keep them? I'm thinking we may still need these originals in the future for other uses.

The consulate will go through the white books, take out the pages they want, and give you back the pages they do not. What you do with these pages is up to you. You will not need them later as they are only for US immigration purposes and have a set validity date. The birth certificate is valid for pretty much forever, but is not acceptable inside of the US, or china for that matter unless you have the original copy. In the US your passport holds more identification weight than the birth certificate.

I was wondering if we needed additional notarized copies just in case we needed them for getting social security card or green card when we get to those phase.

Ur suggestion earlier in the other thread to get early start on getting these certificates are very helpful. Happened my fiance did get stumped with the birth certificate and now he needs to do some sort of DNA testing to verify relationship with his parents. Since we had an early start we have enough time to wait this part out.

Understood, no you do not. If entering on a K-1 you will use your I-94 and your Passport to obtain your SSN.

This is an actual birth certificate - the notation is Medical Certificate of Birth - 出生医学证明 (chu sheng yixue zheng ming). You generally will NOT want one of these, unless you know that one was issued at birth - AFTER 1991.

Notarial Certificate of Birth

Most confusion with the Chinese Notarial Documents is with the Notarial Certificate of Birth. Prior to 1991, birth certificates were not issued at birth. A notarial certificate with translation must be generated from the hukou. Note that if the applicant is no longer in their parents' hukou, they may need to provide other certified evidence to indicate the parents' names.

A notarial certificate is NOT necessarily a translation of an existing document. It is a statement BY the notarial official based on the evidence you present as to the facts of the matter. In other words, the Notarial Certificate of Birth will be generated ON THE SPOT at the Notarial Office, or Gong Zheng Chu (公证处). If they demand that you produce a "birth certificate" for them to certify, you may need to get creative, such as by going back to the PSB to get a certified statement of the facts needed for the Notarial Certificate of Birth.

The notation on the notarial birth certificate is 出生公证书, or chu sheng gong zheng shu, which is what you need to ask for at the Gong Zheng Chu, or 公证处֤֤֤.
