Hi!

I'm getting married in US, and my husband and I plan to make it intimate with only 5-10 guests.

Now to those who have gone ahead of us, I would like to ask your help in planning the wedding since I don't have any idea about it. We will be in Chicago, Illinois Aug. 7th.

Any chance you could recommend anything?

From wedding dress

To food

Fo venue

And designs

Thank you so much!

If I were you I would just go to a restaurant after the ceremony. David's Bridal is one place where you can look for dresses online.

I have never been to Chicago, so can't be more specific. Another idea is to have you wedding if you want it to be small in Vegas, a lot of people have smaller weddings there and so the industry is very well developed. You can have a small ceremony with them providing you flowers, minister, and a bottle of champagne for under $400.

It all depends what you budget is and how you want it!! Are you good with making stuff like decorations? Dollar tree has nice candles, wine glass, and other stuff you can used, also Michaels and acmoore have nice decorations you can make.

I can't be much help but did a little research and found this website that offers many of the Wedding Planners in the Chicago area. All had feedback on their success by past users. https://www.theknot.com/marketplace/wedding-planners-chicago-il

Hi there,

We had a wedding with under 20 guests. While we pre-planned and gathered most of the stuff before we had the visa, we made all of the concrete plans like venues and such once we had the visa. It all depends on what you are looking for. Church wedding or just a venue presided over by an officiant?

For our wedding we used a restaurant for our reception and included in their package was use of the public cliffside park to have our wedding. We married under an arbor and it was presided over by an officiant I found online by researching reviews on Wedding Wire. We did not have dancing or anything of that nature for so small a guest list, but we had a nice dinner party in the fancy ballroom and of course, cake (which was catered). Most venues are only going to offer packages for large guest lists, so you're going to have to research what venues might work for you and see if they would be willing to cut a deal. There are options these days though: http://www.intimateweddings.com/ is pretty helpful for those looking into weddings with small guests lists.

All décor was DIY/designed by me, and included a lot of candles and flowers, burlap, lace, and mason jars (to dress up the dinning room). Since this was a wedding on a budget we kept it simple and did not use décor for the outdoors venue. If we'd had more money I would have also incorporated the burlap theme and added flowers to the arbor. I think overall though, the view was enough decoration. We did use some custom items designed by ETSY artists who were wonderful to work with.

If you need a dress on a budget and fairly fast, you should try Davids Bridal, however fair warning... this was one area of significant stress to me and the particular branch we used I would never recommend to anyone. It will take a while for the dress to come in, and it will take time for them to alter it (if you are using them directly). Pray they do not do the following: lose your gown multiple times, pretend to order the gown when they never did several times, or alter it wrongly. Tips on using them: know what you want before you go - expect to have them pull a few things that you like and a few things that you don't like. Search their website and print out pictures of your favourites with the skew numbers. Undergarments are important and they will try and sell you those first. Shoes are not as important (you can find nicer and cheaper ones elsewhere). Don't go on a weekend, its a living hell. Try mid-week. They will constantly overbook, and this means your consultant is going to be very busy doing too many things at once. Don't expect fast alterations around prom season. Don't be bullied into buying a dress you don't want.

It's all going to come down to budget and what you can do on short notice. Do you need a photographer or are the guests taking pictures (the bride and groom do not need to worry about this during ceremony time)? If you are grabbing the venue first and want a photographer, make sure you lock them in soon because they book fast. Get the dress ASAP. Get the officiant next. Weekends are often more expensive for venues rather than weekdays.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I'll consider this and talk to my fiance about Vegas. I visited David's Bridal and it's great. Thanks! :)

Hmmmm. Nice idea. I'd love to have it DIY... but I'm not really good at it. :D

Thank you so much for taking time to research, Greenbaum. I visited the site and I find it helpful and cool. Thanks for being with me in this journey from medical to wedding. lol

Many cities have very nice wedding chapels and provide the service, flowers and minimal pictures reasonably. Reception dinner at a testaurant makes a lot of sense and many restaurants have small private rooms that would accomodate your wedding attendees
