applying for apartments?

Hi guys!

So we have run into an unexpected issue. My wife and I have been looking for a new apartment to move into now that I am in the country and after a bit we decided to live with a roommate for financial reasons. Now we found an apartment but the issue is she has a terrible credit score and we keep getting turned down, I however, have a fair credit score (high 600~) but no income, and our roommates income is not enough to satisfy the requirements. My question is, as her wife, does her income count as my income in any way (we live in Minnesota if this helps)? I ask this because if so, we could apply with my credit score, and just list her income as my household income, then have her join the lease once we get the apartment.

Any advice?

I don't know how it's written on the forms but if it says household income then for sure you can use her income. If not then I'm not sure

It depends on the apartment.

A lot of apartments here list that they will run the credit of ANY person living in the home over the age of 18. Generally though, if you show proof of income and it's WELL more than needed for the place, they'll just have you put down a higher deposit as insurance due to the credit score being bad.

Usually though, when you combine incomes, they'll want to run both credit scores. It's always best to talk to the apartment, as they can waive their own rules when ever they want.
