American marrying an Australian - how do we do this?

Just my personal thoughts from experience (hubby is Australian)

I see no issue with her coming 90 days. My husband did multiple times before we got engaged and then married after the K1. Many Aussies come to the US and travel for 3 months. They get lots of holiday time. To me, it is not out of the ordinary for Australians to have long travel holidays.

The only time he got any different comment from the officer upon entry, was when it had only been 6 weeks in between visits. The officer told him to just be careful to not come too frequently.

Good luck.

I just wanted to say thank you for this comment. Sometimes these posts get you thinking and I started thinking since my fiance had came twice for almost 90 days at a time if we would now have issues with our k1. Did your husband ever come visit while you were in the process of k1? If so, may I ask how the officer took it?

:)

He had been here from Oct through Dec. of 2013.

We applied for the K1 in Feb 2014, and he was in the US at the time, he stayed till end of April/early May... sry don't remember exact dates. :)

I went over to AUS in July for 10 days and then he got interview and Approval in August 2014. He came 2 days later. (yay) The AUS consulate interview was very quick. I had sent a lot of proof of our relationship. But no mention was made of how many times he came here or the durations- in a bad sense I mean. They saw the passport stamps and the airline ticket stubs of course. But only noted them as strong proof of our relationship, not detrimental.

Seems like I should be trying to get a visa for Australia! Three months off work, back for 6 weeks and then another holiday? Sounds heavenly! Why would anyone want to leave that? Did you not want to move to Australia?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

I have children from a previous marriage and it was much easier for him to move here than all of us to move there. But yes, we all would like to eventually.

Because everything can kill you there! LOL

lol!

The average yearly vacation is 4 weeks but you can 'save' your holidays and take one big one (we did that a few years ago).

Also, after 10 years' service in one company, you get long service leave, which is 3 months off at full pay (kinda like a thank you for being loyal).

But yes, everything is trying to kill you on a daily basis. :-)
