Police Character report from abroad, help!

Hi everyone,

I am in desperate need of advice. I submitted my civil documents to NVC on June 23 and on July 23 I called to check for status and was told that they need my husband's police character report from Nigeria, where he is originally from. He was born and raised in Nigeria but currently resides in Dubai. We submitted his police report from Dubai already, and now they want the one from Nigeria. Luckily for us, we obtained it in March 2016 when we visited but it is only valid for 3 months. It expired in June 2016!

I remember calling NVC and asking the rep if they needed it so I could throw it in but the misinformed lady said no, we only need to include the one from Dubai.

I followed her advice and left out the one from Nigeria. Now they suddenly need it, after waiting 30 days for them to review my documents.

I called today and after narrating to the rep, he said we should send the one we got in Nigeria and attach a note stating that I can't return to Nigeria to obtain a new one since my finger prints are required. Moreover, I don't have the money for the trip, coupled with future expenses coming before the interview and flight to the US afterwards.

I am scared of following this instruction again. I'm worried they will waste another 4 weeks and ask me to send something else. Can anyone advice me please?

Can you have someone from Nigeria scan your police certificate you left there and email it to you? you can print out the scanned copy and mail it to NVC. That will do for NVC. Tell you fren/relative to mail the original certificate you left there to mail to you. Later on, you can take the original one during the interview. you don't need to get a new police certificate, the one you left in Nigeria will work.

Hi, thanks for coming to my rescue! My wife has it with her in the US.....so she can send it to NVC by Monday if sent tomorrow by express shipping. I'm just sad about the process. We are suffering from this painful process.

So what I did was send a color copy of the police character report that expired, a copy of my entrance and exit stamp from Nigeria and a letter explaining why I can't get another report since I currently live in Dubai and can't go to Nigeria to get another one.

Hopefully this would work. Fingers crossed!

Sorry you guys listened and took bad advice instead of what was required As mentioned because you don;t live in Nigeria anymore the Police report you have is fine. Please tell your wife only send a photocopy. You will have to have that original in had when you go to interview.

And all this is too much explanation. Just please just send the police report. They know you are resident in Dubai since that's where your interview will be and your case number. Too much information like why you can't travel back is none of their business and could make them say "get a new one" Stick to the facts and what they ask for.

Expecting another 30 to 45 days of processing because of this checklist. Sorry.

Thanks!

It's just sad you can't hear from the horses mouth (the person reviewing your case). I even asked the rep to ask the supervisor what was required, I didn't ask her to transfer me to one because she might feel like I consider her incompetent, and she placed me on hold for 3 minutes and hung up on me. Making me call and wait for another 30 minutes to speak to another rep. NVC vague answers are always unhelpful. Families and relationships are destroyed Sometimes due to this.

It's crazy.
