Hi guys!
I just mailed out my AOS packet yesterday but it already feels like its been days!!! I'm so bored and with nothing else to do all I can do is sit home and feel anxious! I can't wait until we get all the tracking numbers so I can track it on the USCIS website.

I do have a question for the moderators (and the very knowledgable people on this website) What can I expect next? I thought that an interview was mandatory but recently I've been noticing a lot of people saying they've gotten approved without interview. Is this common now? What are the chances that we will be approved without interview? We've got nothing that I think would be a red flag, we've known each other a long time, we're the same age group, similar cultures, etc. If we did get an interview, is it normal to do the interview before the EAD is approved?

Also, for all the other people that were in my position (or currently are) what did you guys do to spend the time waiting on your EAD? I feel like I'm going crazy because for the first time since getting here I can't just 'work on forms' and there's only so much you can clean in an apartment!

Do you think I can try to get a drivers license? I have a Bahamian license that is still valid. But I'm not sure if it would make sense to apply for one in Minnesota at least until I get my EAD (or some other document showing that I'm allowed to stay in the country)

I also just sent my AOS package :) Its only been a few days but feels like months.. This waiting game is not fun!

Try get your drivers licence that may give you some freedom. I was able to get mine, however, it expires the same time as your I94 and the date on your K1 visa in your passport. And can only be renewed when you receive your EAD or green card. If you don't manage to get your licence just yet, try maybe learning a new language? or possibly getting a bicycle and volunteering somewhere. You could meet new friends and it would look great on your resume when you can finally start applying to work.

I think we will have a similar timeline. Best of luck

I just wanted to say hello because I'm in Minnesota, too!

I was recently researching a Minnesota DL for my husband and it appears that you need to have your license from your home country, and then you need to take both a written exam and a driving exam. There are study guides on the MN DMV website, too.

Thanks guys! It's relieving just knowing that others are in my situation!

I'll probably try to get my Minnesota license soon, that should give me something to focus on. I think my K1 expiry date is in November, and I should hopefully have my EAD at least by the end of October if its processed within the 90 days. so that should work out!

I don't mind that I have to take both exams because at least I can study and practice to take my mind off of this waiting game.

Your k1 expired the moment you arrived and went through immigration.

The dmv and other institutions will probably go by your i94, which will have an authorized stay of 90 days, and seeing your signature, that should be ending real soon. I don't think it will last til November, sorry. You can try and talk with them to have a longer validity based on your pending aos, then take your receipt notice with you, if you try.

Good luck!

Hi JessDak,

I think we've all been through the same. The process itself is very stressful but at the end it's worth it.

You should try to volunteer while you wait for your EAD/AP. There are a lot of opportunities out there for all types of causes. It would keep you busy and you could also meet new people in your community.

Check out this website:

Good luck in your journey!

Angie.
