Register marriage in the US?

Hey VJERS,

Do we need to go register our marriage somewhere in our state now that we are in the US?

We got married in Greece.

Also I remember a file or post somewhere about what is considered a violation of the i-864 and what is not. I looked but can't find it with my phone.

No. There is no registry of marriage in the US. A marriage conducted anywhere is valid in the US (unless it's polygamous, etc.).

Means-tested benefits:

Food stamps

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Medicaid

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

State Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Not means-tested benefits:

Emergency Medicaid

School lunches

Immunizations and treatment for communicable diseases

Student assistance to attend colleges and institutions of higher learning

Some kinds of foster care or adoption assistance

Job training programs

Head start

Short-term, non-cash emergency relief

The USCs in your family can apply & receive means-tested benefits. The whole family & the whole family's income would be counted, but then only the USCs' portion of the benefit would be given. (For example: food stamps)
