I kid you not! I found Italian desserts in general to be a bit undersweetened and dry for my American palate (gelato excluded of course). I'm sure many would disagree. But in any case, Mike's is damn good! http://www.mikespastry.com/index.html

Jenn- LOVE LOVE LOVE the new avatar, but I never figured out who was in the old one? I kept meaning to ask.

LOL. I only had *one* person ask (hey lal_brandow!). I keep a tally of comments on my avatars  . It was Sophia Petrillo from the Golden Girls dressed up as Cheech I think (or maybe Chong). ;)

*waves!*

i have been cooking up a storm lately... with hubby home for a week I have someone to cook for other than myself. today i made a romaine, tuna and rice salad, then i made some meringues... yum. we are trying to do many many more vegetables in our diet and with the help of Stina (suj&stina) I am beginning to get a direction with Indian food (rather than paying 9.00 for puree lentils!!!).

i want to make crepes tomorrow morning,, but dont see how i can really work vegetables into it

I love cannolis.....and all other pastries & sweets.....and all Italian foods for that matter.

You're absolutely correct....I have to book soon because the prices have already gone up but, more importantly, I want to be able to find a return flight for labor day weekend and it seems like everyone & there mother returns from Egypt Labor day weekdend....last summer, even though my ticket had a return flight date of Sept. 3rd, when I went to get a confirmation on the ticket, I was told that the plane was full & they couldn't confirm that I would be let on.....it was ridiculous cuz I needed to get back then, I'm a teacher and had to be back to get my classroom ready before the 1st day of school.....I was panicking that I wouldn't get back to the State's in time for the 1st day of school and my husband was like...."you want to go to your kids and leave me?" I was begining to panic & had scary thoughts of missing the 1st day....last year I took a direct flight with EgyptAir....it had to be a direct flight cuz I was freaking out that a suitcase would get lost in a layover flight....had a nightmare that the suitcase was the one with my wedding dress!!

Shilo, when I was young

I used to call your name

When no one else would come

Shile, you always came

And we’d play

m&n - I'd book sooner rather than later. I booked mine a couple of months ago and it was $1,100 then. Now the price for the same flight is up around $1,600. it's not direct though, it has a 3 hour layover in Milan. Can you say cannoli????? :) LOVE them!

One summer I drove over half of sicily because I had to have a real cannolo. Finally we found one pastry shop that had them. Seems they are all but impossible to find in the summer because of the heat.

re: Mike's Pastry. I've got to get to Boston! I do know this place in Baltimore's little Italy that will ship cannoli. The send empty shells and a tub of filling so they do not get soggy. http://www.vaccarospastry.com/history.jsp

ETA: Just notice so does Mike's! :innocent:

Must admit, found lots of old stuff while cleaning early last month. Lets see … Gumby & Pokey, a Ford Pinto marketing trinket that doubles as a spark plug/ points gap tool, portable AM transistor radio (my first), a few cereal promo items, and more … ouch, I feel so old now. :P
