Renewing Thai Passport

Hello.

At this point I'm anticipating that my fiance's embassy interview will occur in September...his passport expires mid-May 2017. Guidelines say the passport has to be valid for 8 months from when the k1 visa is issued. So I'm thinking he should go ahead and get his passport renewed now, before the interview.

  • Do you agree that he should go ahead and renew his passport?
  • If he does renew his passport now will it negatively impact the process? We're waiting now for NVC case number.
  • I understand that getting a passport renewed can be done very quickly in Thailand...like 1 day. And I imagine the cost is quite cheap. Does anyone have any experience?

I appreciate advice and suggestions!

Thanks very much!

David

1. Get a new passport is probably the best idea.

2. I didn't see any form for I-129F package that question your beneficiary about passport number. Except a copy of your beneficiary passport so I'm not going to worry about it. All you need to do is put down a new passport number in DS160 when you do packet3. And bring both of your fiance's passport to the interview.

3. All you have to do is bring required documents and the old passport. It will cost you around 1,000 baht to do it normal way. And will take you 2 days to get it by yourself or 3-7 days for EMS. Or another fast track option will cost you 2,000 baht you will get it the next day "but" if I'm not wrong you need to go to the headquarter at Chaengwattana, Bangkok to get it (Not sure if they change the policy, my last time visiting was in Mar 2016)

I renewed my passport on March 2016 at the avenue in pattaya. So, if he lives in Pattaya, its more efficient for him to get it done at "the avenue."If he books an appointment online, he can get his passport processed very quickly. I went in less than 20 minutes while others who didnt make appointment online waited for hours. After approximately a week, my new passport was mailed to me.

The new passport will have a different number, won't it? I'm sure this won't be a problem since people renew their passports all the time, but is there a form to fill out stating the old and new passport numbers?

EDIT: Never mind. I see now that this is addressed in post #2.
