If a person asked you too much money for her own paperworks its a redflag. I am sorry to tell you that. I am a Filipina myself. But from my point of view, I would think of your safety first before myself in my own country and I will tell you to meet somewhere else in my country than in my province of Mindanao cause I know how dangerous it is. And beside asking money from you is not a good sign. Try to know her more before sending money. Just a friendly advise know her more. I am sorry if I offended you, just be careful.

Oh, no offense. I really appreciate your advice, especially given that you are Filipina. Thanks so much!

Hi, djw, great questions!

I apologize if you mentioned this idea already and I just overlooked it.

I've dealt with a great many scammers over the past few years. I've found Skype to be a great way to separate scammers from real people. Have you done a "face-to-face" Skype call with her yet? Most towns of any size in the Philippines seem to now have internet cafes where someone can go to meet you "live" in Skype. And the prices are typically extremely affordable, even for the level of poverty in the Philippines.

The scammers will ALWAYS have some great-sounding reason why they can't do a Skype call with you. On the other hand, a woman who is genuinely interested in getting to know you better should be able do at least one 15 - 30 minute chat in an internet cafe.

After one (or, I'd really recommend many) "face-to-face" Skype calls, then you'll be ready to go over there and meet her in, as many others have recommended, a more safe area of The Philippines.

Good luck! I hope you find the love of your life.

Joel

Thank you Joel! Great advice. I did ask her if she has Skype and she said that she does not. I think that I will encourage her to make her way to an Internet café. Thanks much!

No skype? Ask her if she has facebook. My experience is that every man woman and child in the Philippines has a fb account. If they dont then its only because they dont want you to see it.

Just like Joel i have a lot of experience with scammers. Oh the stories i could tell lol

I have to play "Devil's Advocate" here but in the opposite direction. Yes, scams exist--there are plenty right here in the good ole USA, but there is nothing so far to make everyone think that this girl is a scammer. OP, yes, proceed with caution (as anyone entering a relationship needs to), but go and see her and take it from there. Best of luck to both of you.

Manila is a jungle (no offense meant manileños), cebu should be okay. Its got a little bit of everything. Good food, city life & ver nice beaches and not that expensive and crowded compared to manila. That should keep you busy if ever that person doesnt show up. Do not give her cash, i repeat do not give her cash lol. And dont fall into the "i need to bring my cuzin with me" line...
