Vaccinations performed at the medical??

Hi all,

My fiance believes that he is missing one of the required vaccinations listed for immigration. We are wondering if he needs to get this done BEFORE the medical interview or is it something that they can perform for him there? Also do his shot records need to be notarized? We are filing through Montreal.

Thanks in advance!

The instructions for preparing for the medical interview in Canada state:

US immigration law requires immigrant and K visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirement or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive each of the following vaccinations:.....

I am not entirely clear whether its necessary to go to the interview itself with all of the required vaccinations, since it just specifies that the vaccinations are needed before issuing the visa itself.

If someone has any experience with Montreal and this issue in particular, please help!

I'm not familiar with the Montreal experience of course but I can share how it goes here. Basically IF he misses any vaccines, get in on forehand. The panel physician(s) can get him boosted during the exam itself, however, you'll pay three times more than when you get it at your regular doctor. He just needs his vaccine records to bring with him (where for example dates when given are shown) so that the physician can decide if he will give your fiance another shot. You're not in season so flu-shot will not be shot. Do look at DTP/DTKP shot and BMR.

They'll do them at the medical, but they'll charge you something like $40-$60 for each. They should be free if he gets them done through his doctor or through public health (which I'm assuming is a Canada-wide thing). I had my medical done last week and I brought my yellow vaccination booklet showing that I've had shots for Tdap and MMR, blood test results to show I've had chicken pox (varicella), and a note from my doctor saying I recently got the flu shot. You may want to call Medisys to see if the last one is necessary. It shouldn't be, because they generally only want it if you're planning to move between October and March, but there have been a few people recently who have said they were given it there so I got mine in advance just in case. The nurse didn't comment on it one way or another.

Depending on the office they may/or may not do them do them, and it will be much more expensive.

In Canada the medical will not be released till the vaccines are done or at least started.

No need to notarize the records.
