So something very unfortunate happened on Saturday. I went to a concert and took my passport as a form of ID. Upon returning home i realised the passport was missing from my pocketbook. I have turned the truck upside down looking for it, and also the house just incase. I have called the concert venue five times and still it has not been turned in.

  • I entered on a K1 Visa in May
  • I have filed for AOS and am waiting for results
  • I have filed for work Authorisation and am forecast to receive it end of August (should everything go to plan)
  • I married in May and have my marriage certificate
  • I just passed my US driving test and should receive my driving licence in about 3 weeks
  • I have full photocopies of my passport biographic page and visa page
  • I attended my biometrics appointment last week when I still had the passport

Does anybody have any advise on what I should do? If I am called in for a green card interview will i be required to present my UK passport? or will my State ID and Marriage licence be sufficient?

I appreciate any help that can be given.

Call the embassy and find out what you need to do to replace passport

first you should make a police report on stolen or lost passport

this is essenial to getting yours replaced

From now on

advise to anyone

take 2 photos of front page of passport in case of lossing or misplacement of one

keep in separate place of original passport

this advice comes on advice on our US passports and on State department site for US citizens traveling and for tourists to the US

I think you should report your passport lost/stolen ASAP. You don't want anybody using it fraudulently. I believe you need the passport as a form of ID, but you'll have your driver's license for that. Just make note of the expiration on your driver's license before your interview.

Thanks for the info guys.

- I went to the police station and received a crime number

- I called the Consular Office in Boston, who advised me I should physically take them the 'request to cancel passport form'

- I called USCIS who advised that this shouldn’t delay my application. So long as i explain to the interviewer and take necessary evidence that I cancelled the passport and applied for a new one.

- My mum will call the UK passport office in the morning to find out if i should apply for my new passport in my maiden name or married name, along with any documentation required.

Thanks again.
