Are you talking about getting translations notarized at US Embassy or Consulate? If so, you don't need to. See FAQ from below link.

For my case, I've translated all documents that required English translations and signed them myself. I've also translated documents for my friend, and she had no problems. I did not get them notarized at the Embassy or Consulate.

WHAT?! I don't have to notarize translations? So what does certified mean? Just a signed page stating I am competent?

Thanks for the links. We got some samples and popular terms translations for this sort of thing and have all the translations done. Just thought the certifications meant notarize.

From the I-130 instructions:

Translations. Any foreign language document must be accompanied by a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and correct, and by the translator's certification that he or she is competent to translate the foreign language into English.

Yup! I just wrote the usual "I hereby certify to the best of my knowledge... blah...blah..." at the end of each translations and signed my name. I know it's confusing since "certified" translation in Japan usually means translation completed by a licensed translator.

By the way, I am enjoying the beautiful summer in Oregon at this moment.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who gave me ideas and advice. Not finished with the application, but pretty much everything is gathered and translated. We feel a lot more confident now.
So, here, you all deserve a tempera chef I drew the other day.
