Whether or not Melania Trump cribbed a passage from a Michelle Obama speech,

there is one crucial sentiment Donald Trump’s Slovenian born wife

certainly didn’t copy from Obama’s — the inherent pride of being an

American citizen.

As the media pours over one passage in Melania Trump’s Republican National

Convention speech that is similar to Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech at

the Democratic National Convention, they overlook a key sentence that

was undeniably written by Mrs. Trump and reveals all the difference in

the world between these two women and their husbands.

“On July 28th, 2006, I was very proud to become a citizen of the United

States — the greatest privilege on planet Earth,” the smiling Mrs. Trump

said to thunderous applause.

Speaking with the thick accent of a non-native speaker, she flubbed the word

“citizen” for “citizens,” but everyone understood her meaning, and that

endearing verbal quirk and the obvious pride with which she said those

words was immediately recognizable to those of us who come from

immigrant families.

What a difference these sentiments are to Michelle Obama’s infamous remarks

during the 2008 campaign, when she said, “For the first time in my adult

life, I am really proud of my country.”

Why was she suddenly proud “for the first time” in her “adult life”? Because her husband was running for president.

Contrast that with Melania Trump’s inherent pride in being an American citizen,

which in her words is “the greatest privilege on planet Earth.”

That was the most important line in Melania Trump’s speech.

And she didn’t steal it from Michelle Obama.

I wonder if this was plagiarized.

which in her words is “the greatest privilege on planet Earth.”

That was the most important line in Melania Trump’s speech.

And she didn’t steal it from Michelle Obama.

This is how Michelle Obama clarified here comments a few days later....still waiting for clarification on how her speech made it into the Trump speech, setting aside the my little pony explanation

"What I was clearly talking about is that I am proud in how Americans are engaging in the political process," Michelle Obama told CNN affiliate WJAR after a campaign event in Providence, Rhode Island. "I mean everyone has said what I said, in that we haven't seen these record numbers of turnouts, people who are paying attention, going to rallies, watching debates.

“For the first time in my lifetime I am seeing people rolling up their sleeves in way that I haven't seen and really trying to figure this out, and that's the source of pride I was talking about," she continued.

On Monday, Michelle Obama told the crowd at a campaign event that "for the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country, because it feels like hope is making a comeback… not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

That comment immediately drew fire from several conservative talk radio-hosts. John McCain's wife, Cindy McCain, seemed to be responding to the remark when she introduced her husband at a campaign rally Tuesday by saying, "I am proud of my country. I don’t know about you, if you heard those words earlier — I am very proud of my country.”

On Wednesday, Michelle Obama said: "I love my country, and wouldn't be in this if I didn't care deeply and didn't believe that the kind of possibilities I had as a kid should be available to every single child."

None of the lefties thought anything of Joe Biden's plagiarism disgrace back in 1987. That story went nowhere with the liberally biased media - and he was a potential candidate for president. And we all know that plagiarizer went on to the Vice Presidency.

Now a nominee's wife spouts a few familiar platitudes, and the libs feign disgust. Double standard much?

And anyway: Who the eff cares???

Yup

Maybe you were too young to remember, the Clark Pinnock plagiarism was uncovered by the NY times and Des Moines register and was a major concern in many quarters, in hindsight Biden had in fact given the correct attribution on that speech several times, but not that night and a Dukakis staffer exploited that opportunity (something that Dukakis regretted) by sharing a video. The last straw was concerns over exaggeration of his academic record and he dropped out.

The story was broke by "liberal lamestream media" and his candidacy ended in the Democratic primaries. I don't know how you can say there was no concern expressed by media or Democrats. Joe's Career was set back 20 years.

Second point

The truth matters, I don't think Melania wrote this, but on a night when we were told that the rule of law and order must be restored, this faux pas must be acknowledged and dealt with. There was no English teacher on the planet who would not see this as plain , straight up, black and white plagiarism. This matters until it is dealt with, hiding will not work, Melania will not be a force for good for the campaign or the country until this is dealt with.

This reflects less on Melania and more on the incompetence and moral compass of the Trump campaign.

I don't see the big deal anyway. One phrase out of a whole speech was eerily similar, so what? Does that mean that her experiences are null and void? There are many people that have similar experiences and views. Whoever copied it may have stolen the idea but that doesn't change what may or may not genuinely be behind it.

when obama did it, him and patrick had the same speech writer.

but you're right, it's not a big deal. this is how the elite get ahead, by using other people's energies and efforts and pushing them off as their own. the money gives them a leg up and above us worker bees' standard of authenticity. it has nothing to do with melania's experience and everything to do with the fact that the trump campaign couldn't take her experiences and words and present her in a speech unique to melania. in lifting parts of michelle's speech - they've forced republicans to agree and stand up for something that, in part, originally came from a women they loathe.

Hey I can live with that commentary. But I still think it was just an itty bitty part of a much bigger speech.

Eerily similar? Find me one University English professor who would not call this plagiarism and move for academic discipline.

All team Trump needed to do is ackowledge that these words, great words that deserve repeating, belonged to Michelle Obama.

I don't know how it works in your homeland, but we still consider this a matter of personal and corporate integrity. Trump needs to identify how this phrase entered the text of the speech and describe what his being done to discipline the team member that made this mistake.

If the Trump team cannot manage a speech ,how can they manage a country?

Okay so you are saying the plagiarism and incompetence doesn't matter here and the Team Trump should just move on and pretend this is not an issue.
