You are never going to get the original as that remains in the court record and it is a felony to remove it. You can obtain a certified copy which is the equivalent of the original.

A certified copy should have the court raised seal on it. It is a little more expensive than a true copy but more official. As already stated the original divorce papers stay in the court house. When the divorce was final you should have been given a true copy from the court or the lawyer. You can call the court house and they should be able to answer most of your questions.

You will never have the original as this is the only record that the divorce happened. If they send that to you, they then have no record that the divorce happened. Same with birth certificates.

When they refer to "originals" they mean certified copies and not photocopies or scanned copies.
