Hi,

Will my parents or family be contacted as part of the immigration process?

My boyfriend and I were married earlier this year. He's a Chinese citizen and we've started on the immigration process. We've just received the waiver for the two-year home residency requirement, so the process is starting to move. :-)

I haven't told everything to my parents yet. They're very conservative and coming out to them has strained my relationship with them. I have made plans on when to tell them everything, but it looks like it might not be this year. I'm wondering if this is something I need to tell them soon or if I can wait for a better time.

Thanks!

My spouse was never asked anything about my family during the interview in Bogota. The questions came off the I 297 application itself, which I think did list siblings and parents info but never came up at all. He knew that I had x brothers and x sisters and the jist of where they lived but that was it. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Elkin's family was not in the same city as where we met up in Colombia so we had pictures with friends of Elkin's but none with family, nor were we ever asked for any. Just have lots of pics, wearing different clothes at different locations and I bet you will be good. We met up in Guatemala and Mexico to be together while we waited for the interview so we had pictures with us in front of signs of the cities/countries and the flags of the countries. Best of luck!

Extremely unlikely they will contact your parents. Slightly more likely they will contact his/ the foreign beneficiary's, but only if they have doubts about the relationship after the visa interview.

BTW, stop calling him your boyfriend, he is your husband/ spouse; calling him your boyfriend can cause doubt in the CO's mind as to the legality of your marriage.
