planning ahead for POE

Hi everyone,

I am planning ahead for my parents in law POE as I just learned their petitions were approved. I have two questions.

1. Does my husband, the petitioner, have to go to the interview? Will it be frowned upon if he does not? Could it affect their approval?

2. If they do get approved, can I, the petitioner's wife, go pick them up and do POE with them? It doesn't have to be my husband right? The reason I ask is because my job is more flexible about time off.

your husband doesn't need to be at the interview, only them

nobody will be with them when they go through customs, they will hand in the envelope at customs and they will be escorted to an office where the officers will review the sealed envelops and stamp their passports

of course, someone can pick them up if they are flying, after they have gone through customs and picked up their luggage

Thank you for responding. When I say pick them up, I mean I would be traveling and entering the USA with them as they do not speak any English and have never traveled (I know an interpreter can be provided but we prefer for one of us to accompany them to be supportive). I did the same with my husband and acted as his interpreter and it wasn't a problem.

First of all Congrats! I remember when I first came on this site you shared some information with me regarding the process so thank you. I do have a quick question for you regarding your post. When you mention POE for your parents are you referring to a B2 visa for them or will this be the I-130 process? I ask because we are getting ready to file of B2 visas for my In laws... You're very welcome. Glad to hear your parents in law will be coming in the future. For my in laws, I am referring to the I-130 application my husband filed in March 2016. It has been approved and now its time to go through NVC. What is a B2 visa?

Yes, I was referring to the I-130 as well.. and to answer your question the B2 is a tourist Visa. (Less Expensive $160 each and less paperwork) We are in the process of putting the applications together. We figured if it does not get approved then we also have the option for the I-130 as well. On another note, we just received the Biometrics apt letter for my wife today in the mail.

Depending on the layout of the airport that you use as your POE, new immigrants sometimes have a separate channel to go through. Other times they can join the USC and LPR line. You can go through with them, regardless of the line they use. The CBP officer may speak Spanish anyway.

Our POE will be in Boston. I don't care to speak up and insist that I am acting as their interpreter. I did this with my husband and no one had an issue with it at the airport.
