A teenager knocked on the wrong door. Now he’s dead

It was the simplest of mistakes with the steepest of consequences.

Two teenagers were drinking in Chicopee, Mass., Saturday afternoon when they set off to find a friend, according to authorities. Whether it was the booze or the sheer similarity of the neighborhood’s low-slung homes, the teens somehow ended up at the wrong house.

One of the teenagers, a 15-year-old boy, banged on the door.

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out from inside the house, and the boy slumped on the porch with a bullet to his belly.

The boy died at a hospital. He has not yet been identified.

The homeowner, 42-year-old Jeffrey Lovell, was arrested and charged with murder, according to the Chicopee Police Department.

...

Lovell is a gun enthusiast whose Facebook page prominently features a picture of him aiming a gun, according to MassLive. Several posts reflected enthusiastic support for the Second Amendment, the website reported.

No, YOU alluded to that. I am saying anyone who shoots through a door without a valid reason (fear of loss of life, for example?) is an idiot, and has no business owning a gun. As in, may well have been mentally unstable.

I have owned guns since I was 7 years old. Never have I pointed one at anyone in jest, nor have I ever pointed at anyone with the intent to shoot. Ever. And I would never shoot thru a door at an unknown noise. That is reckless behavior.

You're saying the second amendment should not have been afforded to him?

Most state's require an intruder to be in the home, so shooting through the door would be considered murder. A small detail from the story indicates a glass window pane was broken which might indicated an attempt at a violent entry.

Obviously I do not condone shooting through a door, but this isn't quite as black and white as it seems either.

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.
