Visit the USA without activating K-1 approved visa

Does anyone know if it's possible to visit the USA for holiday after my K-1 visa has been approved but then come back? For example if I have the visa approved in September, can I visit for a week in October and return to the UK, and then go over beginning of next year to activate the fiance visa itself?

Or is it simply a case of the first visit to the USA after K-1 visa approval automatically activates the 90-day period to get married etc

Many thanks in advance for any help

Ben

Once you get a K-1 it will supersede any other visa and will be used at your next arrival to the US.

If you haven't been to the interview yet, reschedule the interview and do it after you come back from your visit in the US. Hopefully they let you in without issues.

Thanks for the quick replies! In that case a follow-up question if anyone can help - when scheduling the interview can you simply pick a date, or is it more automated? If I can pick then I'll just schedule it for when I come back to the UK in October

Thanks again

As far as I know you pick the interview date yourself, but you should ask in the British forum, they'll know more exactly how it works at your embassy.

You can pick your interview date for London. if your petition has expired (4 months) then you are supposed to take a new letter of intent from the American fiancé to your interview. Keep in mind the visa will expire six months from the medical exam date, so plan the medical to fit your move date.

In my case I wasn't able to pick the interview date, however

1) you can pick your medical date - so pick that with your intended dates in mind

2) after completing medical then you fill in the "ready to interview" form, and your interview will typically be around 1 month later (in my case it was around 2 weeks, as I put my intended travel date as close as I thought I'd be able to)

It did say on my interview date letter that I could change the date if I couldn't make the one they'd allocated (but it seemed to try to discourage this from what I recall).

The process changed the first week of May 2016. K1s pick their own date in London.
