Psychiatric Referral After Medical

Hi everyone,

My husband completed his immigration medical on July 1st. He was asked about marijuana use and drug tested. He was clean. My husband felt that he was scrutinized because he was asked if he was a Rastafarian and he answered yes. (He does wear his hair in locs.)

He attended his interview yesterday and everything went well. His medical however was not there and our case has been placed in administrative processing. We found it strange that his medical was not forwarded to the consulate considering it had been completed two weeks prior.

I called Andrew's Memorial Hospital in Kingston to find out why my husband's records were not forwarded to the consulate. I was told that I couldnt get that information and they would need to call my husband. They called and told him that his records were not sent because he needs to complete a psych evaluation and there is a referral at the office that he needs to pick up. We are both annoyed and shocked that the hospital would delay our process for a psychiatric referral.

My husband has no history of mental disorders or drug abuse. I read that when a panel physician cannot diagnose a mental disorder or drug dependency, they have the right to refer a specialist to help come to a conclusion.

I am now wondering about what happens next.

What happens during a psychiatric evaluation?

Do we have to pay for this evaluation?

How long does it take for this to be over so that the panel physician can sign and send his medical to the consulate?

How long will we remain in "administrative processing" at the consulate?

Thanks so much for helping. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Just disappointed that there is now a delay in our case. I have been waiting to be with my husband for almost two years.

Yes, you will have to pay for the psych evaluation. It took the psychiatrist 2 weeks to complete his report after my fiance's appt. My fiance was called to pick it up and take it to DHL for delivery to the embassy. I cannot tell you how long you will be in AP after that.

Not all Rasta's participate in the sacrament of ganja smoking. In my opinion, it is discriminatory to assume this and presume him guilty without evidence. I am very disturbed by this. My fiance is Rasta also. I can tell you that his psych eval did not go well. The pyschiatrist made inappropriate comments and asked irrelevant questions. My fiance felt very critized and judged. It's not right. OP, I am not trying to scare you. Just prepare for the tough questioning. Stand your ground. My fiance was very firm in his answers and did not play into the pyschiatrist attempt to downgrade and belittle him.

I will keep you in prayers. What Jah brings together no man can divide. I n I must hold faith in Jah works and blessings.

Tell him to just answer honestly all questions

do not let the quesitons frustrate

answer short quick answers and do not elaborate

do not act annoyed or irritated / stay calm and act as this is normal and routine

they not only look for drug use and lying / they look for people to anger easy

pretend this is not a test but a conversation and let the doctor say more than him like he is learning from a teacher

I have had to do many for specific security jobs

and i have had to give them
