Where did you meet? Where to find "the one"?

I met my wife here in the Philippines 20 years ago. She lived in NY for 12 years and then we moved back here 4 years ago. Seems like a lifetime ago we did all the visa stuff. She has dual citizenship now.

My question is actually for some girls that work for me. Where online can 3 very pretty, very nice educated girls go to meet someone? The expats they meet here are only interested in sex and these girls are interested in finding soulmates. I'm glad I am married because I would have a hard time choosing between the 3 of them.

Does anyone have any suggestions about online sites or even a single friend or relative that is looking for a nice girl?

Thanks in advance

I met my husband in college, encourage them to go back to school - get a bachelors or if they have then go for a higher degree and they might meet someone who has the same intrests as them at worse they will come out with a degree or another degree and have the ability to try to emigrate on their own, it's very disheartening.

I so would not recommend online, so many of my nice educated (they have doctorates) friends only find sleezy guys. Those that do want to marry well let's just say they aren't what they would be looking for normally, way they treat women is appalling.

There are many online dating sites / watch out for scammers on all of them

try the international ones '

It is very important to talk about religion and culture and what you really expect / not just a visa but what is important to be happy

also try penpail sites that may be free / language exchange sites

Hahahahahah yeah they don't sound desperate at all to come to the U.S. As previously asked, why only U.S guys?

Why only American Soulmates?

I didn't specify only Americans. Going back to school is not that simple. It's expensive and they would not be able to work full time to support themselves. They(and I) are not familiar with the international dating sites, that's why I asked for specific ones that perhaps someone here has had success with. I know it's a crapshoot out there but you got to be in it to win it.

Match.com, Firstdate.com... They can google search "dating sites". Like someone mentioned, watch out for scammers online. My husband (USC) found me on a dating site :) I was not prepared to meet anyone but a friend of mine had set up an account and one day I thought, why not just have a little look on what´s out there. And there i saw the message from this handsome American man. We talked online for about a year before we actually met and after we did, well we are now happily married and we are almost at the end of our cr1 visa journey :)

I met my fiancé on asiandate.com. There are good and bad on every site. I agree that dateinasia is not a good site. members have to pay for subscription for Asiandate and I think that brings in more sincere men. Just make your intentions for a serious relationship clear, be honest and if you talk to someone and see red flags....stop communication immediately and try again. Timing is everything. I failed once before and learned a lot. At least I did not get to the visa process. Good luck to those young ladies. Everyone deserves happiness.

Loren and Arthesa

From "Love"

The like force has the passion over all his nature. It expands the sentiment; it makes the clown gentle, and gives the coward heart. Into the most pitiful and abject it will infuse a heart and courage to defy the world, so only it have the countenance of the beloved object. In giving him to another, it still more gives him to himself. He is a new man, with new perceptions, new and keener purposes, and a religious solemnity of character and aims. Ralph Waldo Emerson

My fiance and I met on Tinder when I was backpacking through the Philippines. It mostly shows you people in your immediate surroundings so many matches may fall into the interested in sex only category, but they could always meet for a coffee and pass their judgment there. I think it's better to meet quickly so you don't waste months and months talking online to find out it's not what you want.

I met my fiancee through a website called www.cebuanas.com (Philippines specific), a site I found through a random search after I had gotten fed up with USA dating web sites. I think the "friend of a friend" path through Facebook can be a good step, too.

A few tips to help your friends find men who are interested in relationships, not just sex -

  • While it's fine to post photos that emphasize her beauty, she should avoid posting overtly sexy photos. A photo of her stretched out seductively in a two-piece bikini says "I'm just here for hookups". Absolutely nothing wrong with that if that's what she really wants. But if she wants a long-term relationship, those photos won't take her where she wants to go.
  • Ironically, she shouldn't post polished professional-looking photos. When I see photos that look like they could have been downloaded from a modeling magazine, I immediately think "scam". Likewise, she should also be suspicious of any photos of men who look like professional models straight out of a magazine.
  • Her write-up should emphasize her inner beauty, her spirit, and her intellect. There are throngs of beautiful women in this world. Just posting a few beautiful photos and writing one sentence saying "looking for a long-term relationship" in her write up will lose her in the mass of other beautiful women on the site. Describing the beauty of who she is inside will help her shine above other profiles and send a beacon out to the kind of man she would want to be with. I was immediately attracted to my fiancee because she described her studying to be a nurse. Her willingness to make it her life's work to improve the lives of others told me that she has inner beauty that will last long after her physical beauty has faded.
  • Flip side of the coin - she should be looking for a man with a life's mission, a life's work. A man who also wants to make the world a better place in some way. Looks, wealth, and "power" can all evaporate in the blink of an eye. Character and inner strength are things that last a lifetime. She should be sifting through the masses of men looking for those qualities.
  • If one path doesn't work, try another! And keep trying another and another and another. Never give up or "settle"! I had completely given up on American women and figured I'd just spend the rest of my life alone. And then, feeling pretty foolish at how long it took me to realize this, I thought, "uh, there ARE single women in other countries out there!" :) By the way, no haters, please. I do have a very broad world view. Somehow it just never clicked with me that the woman looking for someone just like me would be somewhere else in the world. :)

Beyond that, at the risk of turning into some kind of match-making service, I know a number of single men of good character whom I could recommend. If your friends continue to have absolutely no luck, I would be happy to at least make some introductions for them. You (or they) could just PM me here.
