OMG!

When I thought everything was done and I could finally rest and do my job hunt, I encountered with this news: my card was delivered TODAY to my former address and is in Hartford and will have to be sent back to Kentucky. I changed the address on the USCIS A-11 form or something like that about a week ago, and they said they'd be done by July 20th. Is there a way I can show up and pick my I-485 card up???? I want to start working!!!!!!!!!

If the current residents in your old address have the card and they are ready to give it to you, then you can pick it up from them. If USPS had already started sending back the card to the sender, then it will go back to USCIS and they will mail the card to your current address.

Same happened to me last year. Long story short, it was a mess!

You need to call USCIS as soon as possible to give them your new address (even though you already did it before). After that, the only thing you can do is to wait until the Post Office send it back to USCIS. Once they receive it, they will send it to your new address.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Angie.

Thank you, guys! I filled out a change of address form at the USCIS website a week ago, with 7/20/2016 as a predictable date for answer.

Should I still call them??

Can I work without the physical green card?

How long did that take for you, Angie?? Thank you!!

You can't trust that USCIS actually change your address even if they say they will. We changed ours and NOA2 was still sent to the old address 2 weeks later.

Yes, call them just make sure. Maybe they got the form but it hasn't been processed.

You can work without the physical green card if your EAD is still valid.I suggest you to be honest with your employer and explain them the situation because it will take some time.

It took about 8 weeks to have the card in my hands after I got the notification that it was "undeliverable".

The other thing you could do as Arken said is: to check if the current residents in your old address have the card and they are ready to give it to you, then you can pick it up from them. But if USPS had already started sending back the card to the sender, then it will go back to USCIS and they will mail the card to your current address.

Hope this helps.

Angie.

I just contacted the post office, they lady left a note for the post officer so they will keep my card, so i can pick it up in person at the post office.

By tomorrow I will have a response... oh Lord, I really hope this works! Now the tracking service of USCIS says "Sorry, the tracking system is having technical difficulties. Please try your search again later."

Update:

I called USCIS, called USPS, and the latter told me I should just wait because they'd forward it to me. Now I'm just waiting. The status changed the website and it says that's on transit now, so that's pretty good, I hope. I'll let you guys know when it arrives!! =)

Hi Kiki,

This is the lesson I learned: USPS does not forward government mail. This is why your card was sent back to USCIS instead of your new address.

Now you need to wait until someone from USCIS sends it to the address you provided on the form and when you called. I may take about two more weeks until you get it.

The good news is that at least it's all moving fast! I had to wait about 8 weeks to have the card in my hands.

Angie.
