F1 Visa holder applying of AOS marriage based

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I've been reading some of the topics for a while and I decided to join.

So I'm an F1 visa holder, previously on tourist visa, I started my first semester last January. Two weeks ago my boyfriend and I got married, he proposed last March. I'm planning to apply for AOS soon. I just contacted my school and told them my plans and that I won't be applying for fall semester. They highly recommended I enroll because if I don't my F1 status would be cancelled. Do you think I should enroll for fall semester? Would this affect my application for permanent residency? From what I understand it's okay for me to stay in the country while my AOS is pending and in case I get denied I would have to leave immediately. Is that correct? Has anyone here been in the same situation?

Sept 27, 2016 Biometrics Done (Day 36) <----Took 10-15 minutes, no issue with being 5 days late with the appointment

Oct 11, 2016 Case is Ready to be Scheduled for an Interview (Day 51)

Oct 19, 2016 Online status changed to "Interview is Scheduled" to Nov 21 (Day 59)

Oct 21, 2016 Received Interview Notice in mail (Day 61)

Nov 21, 2016 Interview Day, sent in for "Approval" (Day 92)

Nov 21, 2016 Online status changed to "New Card Being Produced" (Day 92)

Nov 21, 2016 Online status changed to "Case was approved" (Day 92)

Nov 25, 2016 Received AOS Approval Letter (Day 96)

Has anyone here been in the same situation? Lots. Search the forum and you will find lots of people with your exact situation.

With AOS, you can legally stay until your case is decided.

If you drop out, then your F1 status ends.

If your green card is denied, then you must leave the US.

If you don't want to study, then you don't need to enroll while your AOS is pending. However like your school said, you will no longer in F1 status thereafter. While not enrolling in your school will not affect your AOS application, if your AOS is denied, you are required to leave US. If you maintain your F1 status by taking required credits per semester, you will still be in F1 status and can stay in US to study even if your AOS is denied.

2015-10-05: NVC assigned Case number, Invoice ID & Beneficiary ID

2016-06-30: DS-261 completed, AOS Fee Paid, WL received

2016-07-05: Received IV invoice, IV Fee Paid

2016-07-06: DS-260 Submitted

2016-07-07: AOS and IV Package mailed

2016-07-08: NVC Scan

2016-08-08: Case Complete

2017-06-30: Interview, approved

2017-07-04: Visa in hand

2017-08-01: Entry to US

Thanks for the reply. I really don't think I'll be enrolling for various of reasons. I may go back to school in a year or so but right now I want to focus on adjusting my status and enjoying married life even for a couple of months. As long as it's not going to affect my AOS in any way then I won't. Thanks for the prompt reply. Reall appreciate it
