Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had this similar experience or knows someone who does. I submitted my RFE response 5 weeks ago (June 8th). I am hoping a response will come within 60 days, which will be around August 8th. However at end of August I'm moving from east coast (Boston) to west coast (Seattle).

My marriage was short (10 months) and there was a lack of financial evidence (that's what the RFE was for). So I am prepared for an interview (we never had an AOS interview because it started with K1 visa). I am not fearing the interview itself and even look forward to it to clearing up a few things.

I know I should change my address when I move, and add double protection so mail received at Boston address will be forwarded. But if I do get an interview, it will likely be scheduled near Seattle, not Boston right? I don't mind travelling, just concerned this may further delay the process or even mess up the process.

Thanks!

I am in the same boat. Living now in Ohio and will move to Florida during the process. I was advised to file AR 11 and do the adress change

After I do the above I will send a letter to California processing center and I will urge them to make sure the adress is changed

I will also call the national customary number to ensure it was changed and I could schedule an infopass to make sure it was changed

If after all these things the adress is not changed I do not know what else to do!

We need to make sure that they change our jurisdiction because there were cases in which they were not and you are screwed if they ask you to go for the interview at the old location because they will not grant your interview there and plus is a hassle to fly back....

I agree with all the suggestions above to make sure your address change is successful. The only thing incorrect above is if you move and change local offices the 'old' office can NOT interview you any longer. If for some reason you get an interview letter from them and actually travel to it they will advise you once they find out you moved that they no longer have jurisdiction to approve you. So it would have to be sent back and rescheduled at your true local office. (the one where you live now).

Thank you Andrea and Damara! This is what I guessed (to make sure the new address is in USCIS system, AND to expect the interview in new local office.

I'm tempted to wait it out and stay extra months in Boston area, but know it will have very negative effect on my morale - after summer term I don't have anything planned in this area any more. I believe that's not a worthwhile move, but what does everyone else think? I really appreciate it. If that may significantly reduce processing time (I've been waiting for 13 months now) or improve my chance (mine is a tricky waiver case) it might be worth it.

But I don't see how moving around will hurt the chance. USCIS Vermont read my case and RFE, so it shouldn't matter if they are sending to a Boston local office versus Seattle one?

Thank you again everyone.

Sorry Andrea your post kind o confused me with the 'its a hassle to fly back' part. You should never have to incur the cost of flying back. If you get the interview notice for the wrong location they should be able to change it with out you needing to go to the old location in person.

I skipped over the mail forwarding like EM stated because I believe you should change your address with the Post Office anyway. (you get other mail) And I know they say they dont forward but my husband and I recently moved and something from USCIS was forwarded even though it clearly stated on the envelope do not forward. The Post Office consists of humans that make errors just like anyone else.

But anyway we moved during ROC. Different office. I cant remember which but only ONE of the NOA numbers (you know the thing you use to check the status online?) Only one of them work to enter on the AR11 online. So we also sent in a paper copy for both in addition to doing it online. And you know what? We went to the 'old' office for a 551 stamp months after getting the confirmation of address change from USCIS and the infopass worker said we were still listed at the old address.

After some research she came back and said they had the new address on part and left the old address on another. I guess they were suppose to change it several places. I dunno I dont work there lol. So we got it updated all the places. Thats why I recommend doing several methods and following up. Most people are in limbo as their old card expired and can not afford any delays due to mail.

Why is your case so complicated chica? Divorce waivers can be hard. If you want some help or advice feel free to post back. I know plenty of users would have something to offer you.

Thanks again Damara, and everyone else! I know VJ is an invaluable resources. In face my ex and I came here frequently back in 2012 to file the K-1 visa. My case itself isn't really complicated- married life turned out not to be what we thought, and we completely shared life and tried multiple ways to work it out and each worked for a while until it stopped working. I think I did an OK job with the petition and RFE, and had some valuable documents included like psychotherapist and rabbi's affidavits.

However, what made it so complicated is that 2 years have lapsed since separation and we (me and ex) have completely moved on. It's funny that I am still entangled in this business after 2 years of no contact (and possibly never).
