Hey All,

Long time-lurker here. I met my current fiance roughly six months ago through my family (she's from India) and we hit it off great and are due to be married next month!!! I've been putting together information to prove that our marriage is bonafide (based on advice from this amazing website; thanks guys and gals!!) and will have the following when I finally apply (we're thinking about submitting sometime in September)

  1. Airplane tickets, passport stamps, photographs, hotel receipts from our trip to Austria this past May. This is when I actually proposed to her!! I can also get an affidavit from her brother (who lives there) stating that he met us there, if you guys think it will help.
  2. ~10 pages of Skype video call logs spanning 6+ months. I made sure to take screenshots of the actual video screen near the calendar on my computer, along with screen shots of the call duration/date.
  3. ~10 pages of WhatsApp CALL logs spanning 4-5 months; again I have screenshots of call dates and durations with her name clearly shown in the screenshot.
  4. ~10 pages of WhatsApp CHAT logs spanning 6 months. We actually have >1000 pages (!!!), but I reduced it down to 10 pages spanning multiple time periods and trying to show the evolution of relationship (from awkward to soooo in love hahaha). One quick question here, I used the Export Chat Log feature in WhatsApp which outputs to a text file, but do you think taking actual screen shots would be better?
  5. ~2-3 pages of Facebook posts (status updates when we got engaged with comments from friends/family) as well as logs of calls made using Google Voice.
  6. I am going to get her added as an authorized user to my credit card. Unfortunately, I cannot add her as a full user to credit card while she's not physically present in the USA, meaning she won't be a joint account holder ( :crying: ). But there will be a card issued in her name and she's been using it in India. I'm hoping showing paperwork adding her as a user, plus a copy of the card itself, plus official bill statements showing charges made in India by her card will be okay.
  7. I've purchased life insurance here and named her as beneficiary; she will do the same in India for me.
  8. I've added her as beneficiary to my Roth IRA and investment accounts (as I learned you can literally add a total stranger).
  9. I've added her as beneficiary to life insurance provided my workplace (through my health insurance).
  10. I intend to add her to my health insurance policy after the wedding here in the USA (they're suprisingly willing to add her despite her not living here; just need to show a marriage certificate).
  11. Flight tickets, boarding passes, and passport stamps from when I go for the wedding (~1 month stay).
  12. Copies of our marriage invitations.
  13. We'll have probably 1000+ photographs from our big fat Indian wedding; I'll select ~5-10 pictures which various subsets of my and her family.
  14. We're getting written affidavits from our parents, and 1-2 close friends/cousins.
  15. Flight tickets, boarding passes, hotel receipts, and photographs from the reception we're taking to the Andamans (after the wedding).
  16. Receipts from various gifts I am buying her for the wedding; she's also bought me some things, and I'll try to see how many receipts I can save.
  17. Written affidavit from me describing how me met, how our relationship progressed and our plans for the future.
  18. Airplane tickets I will buy to go visit her in December.

The one thing I've been trying the hardest to do is to start a joint bank account. I've been to my bank here in the US (Chase Bank) multiple times, but they seem to insist on her physical presence before adding her to the account. Instead I'm looking into starting an NRI (non-resident Indian) account with a bank in India, *fingers crossed* she could be added as a joint account holder. This seems to be taking awhile and I'm not 100% sure I can pull this off. Do you think this last thing will be super crucial (i.e., is it worth waiting until it gets done??)

What does everyone think in general of all the items I've listed above?? Since this is kind of a new relationship and we live in different countries, I don't have any joint tenantship. Is there anything else easy I could add? Thanks so much!!

I believe what you have is more than sufficient. I wouldn't worry about the joint account at this time.

Whatsapp use screen shots, you can have the date showing and it will show her phone number on top. About 4 shots per page. I did it that way.

Don't worry about bank yet, do that once she is here. I did it early because my husband is from UK so able to visit without the hassle of visa.

Use MS Publisher to organize pictures with little description. Able to put multiple on one page. We did this per visit. So 5 pages, with 4-6 photos. Yes we front loaded even though UK is easy country. No point is not being thorough.

Good luck. You sound on the right path.
