NVC Phase of CR-1 Visa - A Few Questions

Most common questions are usually how you two met, what you (USC) do for a living, where do you live.  Usually the questions are pretty basic, stuff she should know anyway.

I think they asked more difficult questions at CFO ;)

Visa chase and citizenship.. DONE!

Can you guys give me an idea of what questions might be asked at my wife's interview? I know it is hard to predict what might be asked but I want to give my wife a general idea of what to expect.

2 years ago:

How did you meet.

When did you meet.

How many times have you been to the Philippines.

These were all that the co asked.

The pre-screen conducted by Fililipino(a) in Tagalog verified verbally questions about the applicant that he already had the answers for on the paper docs previously submitted:

What is your name; when and where were you born; where do you live now; father and mother names.  All pretty basic stuff; nothing trick.

There are many postings and web sites that list frequently asked questions at the interview which can really stress out the applicant for really no reason.  What is my favorite food; where do I work; color of my car; my address in US; etc.  My guess is that CR1 questions are probably more formal than probing as they may be for K1 applicants.

My wife and step son just finished their interview and their visas were approved! She was told they will be delivered to her in 5 to 10 days. She just about gave me a heart attack because she was joking with me at first that they were denied and I thought she was being serious.

As far as the interview goes they told her they didn't need any paper work from her because they had everything they needed (waste of $75 for DHL but better safe than sorry). They only asked her a few questions.  They asked her where she would be living. They asked her if she knew what the weather is like in Wisconsin and if she could handle it. They asked her what my job is. Then they asked my step son if I treat him and my wife well. That was it.

Now it is time to concentrate on getting them here. I was thinking the end of next month or March I would fly them here but I just found out I get a paid week off work for Easter (I work on a weekend shift) so maybe I can take a week of vacation before that and take a trip to the Philippines. That would give me time to save money for a trip too (maybe even enough for a trip to Bohol). My wife and I are trying to decide what is the best option (she wants me to fly there so I can fly back here with her). We also need to decide what is best for my step son as far as school goes. His school year ends in March.

Anyways it feels like a weight is lifted off my shoulders now. My wife and I have been apart almost a year now and soon the waiting will be over. I want to thank everyone here for the help. We couldn't have done this without you or all the resources on visajourney.

Your challenge now if you decide to accompany them (recommended if you can pull it off financially), is to mesh your rt ticket with their 1 way tickets. I found that to be a real PITA when searching for the least expensive alternatives especially when trying to book 3 seats together,

Congrats on your success.  I hope I helped in some small way.

The visas were delivered to my wife yesterday so all she needs is the CFO stickers and they are ready to travel to the US correct? She can go there with the certificate and get the stickers at any time right? Is there anything else we have to deal with such as any fees before they leave or when they get here?

Congratulations.  Yes, all she needs to do is bring her certificate and her passport and they will affix the sticker in the passport. Before exiting the Philippines there is Travel Tax payment which can be paid at the counter at the front of the terminal before check-in. P1,620 each adult, lower cost for a child. Safe travels to all.

Correct, no appointment needed to get the sticker affixed.  Bring  your DO NOT OPEN envelope with immigrant data sheet attached also, maybe have copies ready also.  DO protect this envelope so it doesn't tear!!  Keep it tightly wrapped in the plastic.

Well I just found out at work last night we have mandatory overtime and no vacation time will be approved for at least the next couple months. That means my wife and step son will be flying here without me. The other thing is I will be working at least 5 12 hour shifts a week including probably the week they get here. I am worried about how my wife will handle being at home that long without me even though she says it is okay and she will be fine. I am probably going to move to a town with a bus system so she can at least get around town without me until she gets a driver's license. The plan is move right away then fly them here within a month or less after that.

Sounds like a great plan.  Just keep her busy with, electronics, bus, neighbors, friends, internet, skype, Facebook messenger..... anything so she feels that she is connected with others and not bored.  Once in awhile call one of the sandwich shops that will deliver for her. Can be a nice treat.
