NVC Phase of CR-1 Visa - A Few Questions

I was thinking about calling NVC to ask but maybe I should wait until my step son gets the n/a too. It still says paid for him. Maybe when you have two cases together it only changes on one of them. Any thoughts on this? After I confirm a case complete how long until the interview is scheduled?

I'm unfamiliar with whether or not the AOS fee will change to N/A also for linked cases, but the best advice would be to call NVC anyway. They are probably still scheduling for December now, so if you get a CC you may still be able to get a December interview for your wife and step-son :)

I called the NVC and they told me my wife's case is complete! They said they are just waiting on my step son's case to be complete to schedule the interview. I gave them his case number and they asked me when I completed his DS260. They told me it could be up to 6 weeks after the DS260 is submitted for his case to be complete. What do you guys make of this? I am wondering if his case will be complete too in the next few days since the two cases are tied together. I hope they didn't just complete my wife's case then put my step son's case off resulting in us having to wait 6 weeks (or longer) anyways. Should I call back and ask if there is anything that can be done with my step son's case or just wait ti out for a few days?

Congratulations on your wife's CC! I would give them a couple more days to review your step son's case... it shouldn't be too long for his CC since his documents were sent with your wife's. I say if you don't have your step son's CC by Monday night you should make another phone call to your congressman.

Just called the NVC again. No change in my step son's case. All they can tell me is they have mail for him. They keep asking me if I submitted his ds260 yet. You would think they could look that up. If I don't find out anything by Monday I'm calling my congressman. By the way the rep became very rude when I asked why the cases weren't being processed together.

You know, the rep asked if we had completed my wife's DS-260 already when I called too. He was able to see we had submitted documents, but he wasn't able to see what they were. I almost wonder if for security reasons the tier 1 staff (I'm assuming they are contractors based on past comments) aren't allowed access to our actual documents...so maybe they really cannot see if the DS-260 is completed. Huh.

Called the NVC again today. Nothing new. Got the same "wait 6 weeks" answer. Called the Congressman's office and they told me the person who deals with immigration won't be in until Thursday. This is very frustrating.I will keep calling everyday. Guess that is all I can do.

Another day calling the NVC. Another day getting no answers whatsoever. I called twice today. The first time all the rep could tell me is they received mail for the case Oct. 11th and asked me if and when I submitted a DS-260 then proceeded to tell me to wait for 6 weeks after that date as all the other reps have told me. I then decided I would try asking for a supervisor. He put me on hold for a minute then came back and said the supervisor is busy and I would have to try calling back again to get a supervisor.

I immediately called back and after waiting on hold for almost an hour again got another rep who gave me the same wait 6 weeks line. I then asked for a supervisor. At that point he started trying to convince me everything is progressing as it should and that it is normal to have two cases linked together and not have the paper work reviewed at the same time (or within a reasonable timeframe of each other). I wasn't buying it because he (as well as all the other reps I spoke with) couldn't even confirm that a DS-260 was submitted. I then thanked him for his help and told him I still want to speak with a supervisor. He put me on hold for a minute and came back and told me they were not available. It would be nice if they could at least put me on hold to wait for a supervisor.

At this point I may try again or I might wait until tomorrow. Maybe getting my wife's case complete has made me even more impatient. Hopefully something happens with the Congressman's office on Thursday. It would be nice to talk to someone who knows more than the fact that they received mail for the case. A December interview is looking more and more unlikely. Hopefully I can at least get them here by our one year wedding anniversary in February.

Hi guys, just checking in. I see NVC is still pissing you all off... I can't believe they lost your documents Teddy! I would be so annoyed! Speaking of being annoyed, I don't know if I did anything wrong, but when I went to try to check the status of my husband's green card (he arrived this past Sunday) on the USCIS website, I received an error message. Is that normal? I thought that I would have at least gotten a "It will take up to 6 months to process" message since I read on another thread that that's what they were getting. I'm kind of nervous now that perhaps I did something wrong. I have an IOE number and payment confirmation, but I still keep getting the error :(

Hi xmaricrix I'm glad you're enjoying your time with your husband. Give it a few more days you know how lazy they're updating anything. I'm mad as hell how do they lose part of your file I called nvc right away and spoke with a supervisor who says sorry can't help you we send your entire file or else you wouldn't have your case complete

Ugh how frustrating. It just sucks because we're basically at their mercy... we have to do whatever they ask in order to get what we want, even if it means sending out the same documents over and over again due to their inability to keep files in order :bonk:

Hopefully my husband's SSN arrives soon... otherwise that's another hassle for us to deal with.

The NVC is a joke. I'm sorry to hear about your situation Teddy. If I were you I would contact your Congressman again. I plan on it tomorrow. I called the NVC again today and asked for a supervisor. This time they took my number and a supervisor just called me back. She told me my wife and step son's paper work were processed in diferent batches and everything is normal and on schedule. She said give it 2-3 more weeks. That is all she could tell me. I have read about people getting a supervisor that was able to get things moving along for them so I thought I would give it a try. The supervisor I got claimed there is nothing she can do to expedite the process. Who knows if that is true or not. Looks like there is no chance of a December interview at this point. It is interesting that the first rep I spoke with today admitted flat out that they are under staffed. Makes me wonder where all the money for the fees we pay goes to (not to mention the tax payer's money they get in addition). They should consider hiring more people. They really need to get their act together at the NVC.

My husband received his SSN in the mail yesterday. We got it in 1 week without even having to go to the office hehe. Still no update on the greencard though... it still comes up as error on the USCIS website. How are things progressing with you, teddy and JG??
