Has anyone had any trouble purchasing a plane ticket for their immigrating loved one using a credit/ debit card? Because it was a problem one time. They were asking the person boarding the plane to show the credit card that was used to purchase the ticket. Which of course he wouldn't have because it will be here with me in the states. I know someone was even denied boarding. Specifically, asking about delta. I'll call them and ask too.

No I haven't had issues. My FIL recently flew Delta to see us. I checked him in ahead of time since it was a domestic flight, and he picked up his tickets. My husband has bought flights for me and I've never had an issue checking in or picking up the tickets with my passport.

I've never seen the airlines ask for the credit card to board the plane. I've seen them ask to pick up tickets and check in, but you specifically tell them the ticket was bought by someone else and you do not have the credit card.

When fraud is rampant in a country/area, they are more stringent on the requirement to show the credit card used to purchase the ticket; a mismatch between the name of the passenger and the name on the credit card, or the country of issuance and the country of departure, etc. will cause the passenger to get flaged [extra details for those interested: http://www.iata.org/services/finance/Pages/fraudclear.aspx ]. You can usually go to a (local to you) airline ticket counter and have them validate your ID and credit card.

I've been ask to show my credit card in the USA only once, but quite frequently (20-25% of the time maybe) elsewhere.
