It's not advised. You should schedule an infoPass appointment at your nearby USCIS office to get an I-551 stamp in your passport which extends the validity for one year.

Hi , Can i travel with expired Green card and expired extension letter? by the time i will need to return to USA, my Extension letter will be already expired, for some emergency reasons i need to travel, any help will be much appreciated,

Thank you, do you mean the stamp will give me another 1 year -starting from the extension letter expiration date-?
