Hello! I'm starting to work on the paperwork to petition my mom and I have a question about I-864. The lawyer she went to told her my husband has to fill out that form but I don't understand why my husband has to fill out anything. I think maybe the lawyer thought I don't make enough money to support the household without a co-sponsor? Or does my husband need to be included for some reason? I want to save myself some paperwork...

Thanks for your help!

You only need a joint or co-sponsor if you individually fail to meet the federal household income/poverty guidelines.

If you make enough, and you filed taxes separately from your husband, then he won't need to file anything. If you filed jointly, they may request a I-864A from him to show he knows about the affadavit of support, since your finances are tied.

Oh ok, that makes sense! We do file jointly.
