The fact that you ignore the disrespectful message just because it was posted by a certain site says a lot about your (lack of) comprehension of the issues at hand. The fact remains that Obama said the things he said, and it wasn't in very good taste.

Okay, I was close. My guess was Breitbart but it's West. The latter probably a bit more ridiculous than the former. Carry on.

The fact that you rely on a hack like Allen West or other heavily slanted outfits on the internet instead of reading the full speech yourself says a lot about your lack of first hand information. You'd gain the context in which he said what he said. And when you read it all, you will perhaps be able to understand what his message actually was. It was not a sick message but a message meant to reflect on both sides of the equation. That is necessarily the starting point if any reconciliation and healing and unifying is ever going to be achieved.

Here's a portion of that speech. Verbatim. I don't see what's disrespectful about any of it.

We also know what Chief Brown has said is true: That so much of the tensions between police departments and minority communities that they serve is because we ask the police to do too much and we ask too little of ourselves. (Applause.) As a society, we choose to underinvest in decent schools. We allow poverty to fester so that entire neighborhoods offer no prospect for gainful employment. (Applause.) We refuse to fund drug treatment and mental health programs. (Applause.) We flood communities with so many guns that it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than get his hands on a computer or even a book -- (applause) -- and then we tell the police "you're a social worker, you're the parent, you're the teacher, you're the drug counselor." We tell them to keep those neighborhoods in check at all costs, and do so without causing any political blowback or inconvenience. Don't make a mistake that might disturb our own peace of mind. And then we feign surprise when, periodically, the tensions boil over.

We know these things to be true. They've been true for a long time. We know it. Police, you know it. Protestors, you know it. You know how dangerous some of the communities where these police officers serve are, and you pretend as if there's no context. These things we know to be true. And if we cannot even talk about these things -- if we cannot talk honestly and openly not just in the comfort of our own circles, but with those who look different than us or bring a different perspective, then we will never break this dangerous cycle.

In the end, it's not about finding policies that work; it's about forging consensus, and fighting cynicism, and finding the will to make change.

I find the Faux outrage over everything said or not said by Obama to be a significant part of the problem.

This could have been the son he never had.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Maybe he'll find it deplorable if he reads it here: http://time.com/4403543/president-obama-dallas-shooting-memorial-service-speech-transcript/

Lecturing on whites being racist when five of them have just been killed by a black racist is obviously terrible form. Nobody here needs to have that explained to them, really; they're just pretending.

What people are actually hearing is that a guy pissed off about two black people being killed by cops, in arguably legitimate shootings, hated whites so much he killed five of them, and the president is still blaming them for creating the situation that sent him down that road. This kind of "I understand why you feel this way" is why you have a woman calling the shooter a martyr and others refusing to condemn what he did. Because, in Obama's words "If we’re honest, perhaps we’ve heard prejudice in our own heads and felt it in our own hearts.", a lot of people actually do hate whites and intend to do them harm.

My last point. Obama said "Race relations have improved dramatically in my lifetime.", which is undeniably true. It's also undeniably true they've gotten far worse since he took the presidency: http://www.gallup.com/poll/190574/worries-race-relations-reach-new-high.aspx

Race relations in the US are now the worst they've been this century.

They will keep getting worse, BTW, BLM et al. seem to just want to double down.

Good luck!

Awesome. Just like Alan West, you quoted the parts YOU wanted to. But he said the other stuff, as well. I agree that it sounded less offensive when one reads the entire transcript. But to stand in front of the world and tell us that we are all racist at heart... I don't see where telling a lie is going to make the situation any easier to bear for anyone. It SHOULD have been about the families of those who lost their lives, the way he started it.

Say what you will, but I think this speech did a better job memorialize get the officers and their families, and left out the blame for the rest of us.

Did you listen to the Presidents speech in it entirety?

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.
