When can you change the SS card?

two of my previous jobs wanted to see my SSN card as well as my EAD, because they knew I was an immigrant and needed varification that I was legally eligible to work.

My third job didn't need to see it, because now I'm working for my husband, he's been to all my interviews since I got here, so he knows I'm legal ;)

Now that I have my Green Card, I may at some point get brave and take a trip down to the SSA office to get a new card. I'm just not up to sitting there for 4 or more hours to wait tho :P

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

Wouldn't there be possible complications if you have an SSN with "Not valid for work" on it? It would seem to be a conflict between that and your greencard. A harried HR person may give you a hard time. Personally, I would get it changed so it said "Valid with DHS Authorization only".

I have a card that says "valid for work with DHS authorization" so I'm covered, since EAD or GC is authorization aplenty. I kind of feel like Reba -- not looking forward to spending at least an hour waiting + travel time to get an unrestricted card. Will do it some time in the future as mdyoung had a valid point on implications when removing conditions.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail
