NOA2 Received, Medical/Interview Scheduling

Hello,

We received our approval on 7/1, and judging by current trends, we should have our number at the NVC sometime in the last week of July. My fiancé and I are trying to avoid delays and get everything prepared and scheduled ASAP. However, my lawyer says the NVC will take 4 weeks to process and the NOA2 letter also says 2-4 weeks. This doesn't seem to square with current trends, which seem to show the NVC shipping cases to consulates within a week of receiving them from the CSC.

So I would like to get a sense of what the roadblocks are to scheduling the medical and interview at the consulate, which to me appear to be the biggest variables in how long the remainder of this process will take. I know I need to complete the affidavit of support and my fiancé needs to fill out the DS-260, but the guides aren't clear as to which steps must be completed before we can get to scheduling, just that everything must be done.

Is getting our number at the NVC enough to start scheduling for either medical/interview or both, or do we need to wait until the consulate receives it from the NVC, or do we have to wait until my fiancé received correspondence from the consulate? Do we have to take everything step by step, or can we schedule appointments and complete paperwork simultaneously? Or are there some parts of the process that are key to the rest that I should be focused on?

Thanks for your help and advice.

NVC is fast, what's taking so long is USCIS not getting their thumbs out of their as*es to send the approved petitions to NVC. It can apparently take up to 90 days for them to send it now, so you might be in for a long wait.

Many countries require you to have a case number before you can schedule appointment for the medical and it'll probably be a good idea to wait for that as you don't really know how long it'll take to get that number as things are now. It would suck to do the medical already now if you have to wait a few months to get the interview, the visa is only valid for as long as the medical is.
