Getting married in Phils after K1 approval (split)

Hi, will it really be a problem to show wedding plans? Or did you mean wedding plans in the US? My fiancé and I have already set our wedding ceremony here in the Phils in December, with some suppliers already paid. It will just be a ceremony though, since we applied for k1 visa. The legal wedding will be in the US. We had planned on either me going to the US after the ceremony here or if it gets approved early with enough time for Advance Parole, then I will go there earlier and we will just come back for the ceremony.

Yes it will be a problem if you show up at your interview with pictures that look like you had a marriage ceremony. DO NOT show ANY pictures or voluntarily speak of a ceremony. There is a great possibility you will get DENIED. Once denied your k` visa is dead and you will have to marry and then file a CR1. There is nothing you can say or do once you are denied. So DON'T GO THERE.

I'm not saying you can't have the ceremony that you speak of. BUT don't bring photos or volunteer any information to the CO about the ceremony. But if they ask, then you will have to answer their questions trustfully.

Read these and make up your own mind to what you will do.

I wish we had known this. My fiancé sent copies of our wedding receipts when he sent the I-129f application to uscis. We already got our NOA2. Thanks for your reply.

The best you can do now is go to the interview and only if asked about the ceremony then be honest and explain your circumstance to the CO. Be truthful and see what the outcome will be. Some do pass and some do not. No one can say for sure how yours will turn out.

With a K1 the underlying truth is that it is for someone to travel to the USA and get married in the States. So if you are "married" or have the appearance that you are married before the K1 is granted you would be causing visa fraud. Once the CO makes the decision that it "looks" like you're married it's hard for you to prove that you are not. That's the experience of others who have been denied.

Good luck.

No it is not a problem to show wedding plans. Greenbaum seems to be confusing wedding plans with wedding pictures. No issue showing wedding plans if you want, but there is no value in showing them as it is not evidence of a genuine ongoing relationship over time ... wedding plans are "future".

You seem to be confusing wedding PICTURES with what they are actually talking about.... receipts for their FUTURE wedding IN the USA.

I don't get this...

So if you are going to bring a fiancé to the US on a K1 visa, you are not to divulge any plans you are making for a wedding during your 90 day window until your fiancé hits the POE and doing so is not additional evidence of your ongoing relationship? That doesn't make any sense at all.

I understand that showing evidence of an actual wedding having taken place, prior to issuance of a K1 visa would be a problem, since the individuals should be applying for a CR1 versus K1.

Hi, I was talking about wedding ceremony (no legal papers) here in the Philippines, which could happen before my point of entry in the US. My fiance sent wedding receipts in the I-129f application thinking it would help, and we thought I would be able to marry him in the US first then we both come to Phils for the ceremony. But with our application that seems stuck in the NVC, it seems more practical now to do the wedding ceremony first before flying to US. We may face some penalty fees from wedding suppliers if we move the ceremony date.

You situation is TOTALLY different from the OP. (You should start your own topic with your questions, I am going to see if I can get your post moved)

You have a wedding ceremony planned for in the Philippines BEFORE you fly to the USA? Big NO-NO if the embassy finds out. With this GREENBAUM is totally correct.

Even the receipts could cause the embassy to ask questions that you don't want asked.

If you have the wedding ceremony before flying to the US, then you put yourself at risk for a denial. Many people have had their visas denied for having a wedding ceremony before going to the US.

Ok, yeah you will more than likely face problems for doing this. The K1 visa is for coming to the USA to get married not to get married in the Philippines. Even if you have just a ceremony that is still wrong.

So your saying that your fiance showed wedding receipts for a wedding in the USA or the Philippines?

Two different people, which is why I asked this be separated. Other topic is about receipt for the "coming" wedding in the USA. This person is talking of doing the "no-no"

If you have wedding plans for the USA, that's one thing which falls under the ok to do with a K1 visa.

On the other hand, if you are having a ceremony or wedding in the Philippines and continue to pursue a K1 visa, your committing visa fraud.
