Greetings,

If I may, I had two questions for experienced I-130 filers:

If we both have the SS# do we need this Alien registraion #? I don't even know what it is.

And also we have one more question: my wife was in the US over five years ago, and not understanding the limitations of her work visa went to Mexico for a week. Upon return she was detained and told she was not allowed to re-enter the US (for a year).

On the I-130 there is the question: "Has your relative ever been under immigration proceedings?" and then the options: removal, exclusion/deportation, recission, and judicial proceedings.

I am guessing 'removal' but I am not sure.

Thank you all in advance.

The A#=Alien Number. It's generally assigned to people who come to the US on other visas as well as immigrant visas, so you should look on some old paperwork. If your wife has one, it will speed your case up to supply it, otherwise they have to go looking for it.

About the Mexico incident: is there ANYthing noted in your wife's passport? Quote any numbers or codes you find from that time. What was her visa type at that time? What year did this happen?

Removal is a very specific event; your wife would know if she had been removed because she would've gone to court (aka deportation). This *could* be an exclusion. Maybe zyggy will know? The codes from her passport, or any letter she was given etc will be helpful. SOMEthing surely happened to her that needs to be noted.
