Should this guy have been killed immediately? Why or why not? Take your time.

A North Carolina man was disarmed and arrested after allegedly waving a shotgun at cars, then firing a pistol at a sheriff’s deputy.

A motorist in Raleigh complained to police that 62-year-old William Bruce Ray was in the road brandishing his weapon. When Wake County deputy D.R. Farmer arrived, Ray allegedly aimed a shotgun at him, according to local NBC station WRAL.

William Bruce Ray, 62, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, but may eventually face attempted murder charges.

Farmer managed to grab the barrel of the gun and push Ray back, but the potentially deadly encounter wasn’t over.

“The man says, ‘I got something for you’ and reached in his pocket and came back with a pistol,” Wake County sheriff Donnie Harrison told the station.

As the two scuffled over the handgun, it went off.

Harrison told WTVD, the local ABC station, that the deputy could “almost feel the bullet going by him.”

No one was injured, and the deputy disarmed Ray.

“As a deputy, you don’t ever know what to expect when you’re approaching something like that, so your training kicks in,” Harrison told local CBS station WNCN. “And of course when the gun came up, it was automatic to him to get that gun away from him, and he did exactly what he was supposed to.”

Police said Ray had been drinking. He was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, but prosecutors told WTVD those charges could be upgraded to attempted murder.

“I applaud the deputy for what he did. He did a great job. His training kicked in and he did exactly what he was supposed to,” Harrison told WTVD. “Nobody got hurt and that’s a good thing.”

That's unhelpful. Each situation is different. Unless you are in law enforcement, you are unable to put yourself in their situation and their reaction. Should cops be trained better? Quite possibly. That said, I don't believe that each and every cop that has shot a black citizen has done so out of hate as has been portrayed in the media. Each cop just wants to make it home to their family each night and fear is a very strong motivator for doing things.

If you are not able to make a coherent contribution to the dialogue, you're dumbing down the entire conversation.

Not sure if you are talking to me, but I believe the police are choosing who lives and who shouldn't at that moment. Of course they want to make it home, wives, mom's, dads, husbands want to make it home too. But that option is many times taken away from them.

I find it amazing he can tackle this grown man and take his gun away but police can't tackle a 12 years old kid who turned out to have a fake gun.

Our police are too militarized and given too much power. This is not Judge Dredd. They cannot be judge, juror and executioner.

Actually, she's pointing out something very coherently.

It's been said here that resisting arrest or going against the police warrants an automatic death sentence. But this line of thinking only seems to be used when the perp is black. There's videos where cops have been shot at with AR-15's and they somehow manage to capture the perp alive. Folks who have murdered quite a few people only to be arrested without incident and the perp doesn't have a scratch on them. When it comes to black death, EVERY crime, no matter how small is elevated and worthy of capital punishment. Selling untaxed cigs? Death. Back child support? Death. Unpaid parking tickets? Death.

And it's a known fact police are racially biased against black people. There's tons of studies that prove this:

Every time a black person is killed by the cops and it's caught on video, they go digging through their history. We're the only people on earth that are put on trial for our own death. That's why folks "wait for all the information". It's their way of saying, there has to be something wrong with them and that's why they're dead. It's I want to see what happened before they got killed or they had to do something to deserve this, going back even as far as past criminal records. They won't stop until they find that little thing that validates their suspicions.

One video proves cops don't shoot white folks. The many many we have posted of cops shooting white people mean nothing. SMH

Tell me NB. Where's the video of cops shooting white folks in front of their kids. Or in front of their wives.

Better yet, here's one for you. And it's not even posted here, but I know about bc BLM has been protesting it. Where's ALM?

White guy killed by cops, unarmed. And yet, no one here seems to care. All this crying about police and black folks, a white guy is killed, unarmed, and it looks like it wasn't justified either. Yet black folks are going to protest it, because we're all in the same group when it comes to PB.
